Today we get the news the President has finally allowed foreign ships to help with cleanup in the Gulf. This could have happened two months ago had the President preferred pollution control to politics.
(Please read this quickly before Obama shuts down the internet that Al Gore invented between massages. Fighting that there Republican-caused global warming and saving the polar bears must make Al Gore real kinky in the neck.)
It does not matter what color you paint your politics, every single American should be outraged by the lack of performance by this Administration concerning the Gulf oil spill.
As the Gulf waters and shorelines are poisoned far and wide, moment by moment, we find a President fumbling so terribly, we now have the worst environmental catastrophe on record. There is no end in sight. The economic and ecological consequences will be horrendous.
Report by AP yesterday: “The United States is accepting help from 12 countries and international organizations in dealing with the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. More than 30 countries and international organizations have offered to help with the spill. The State Department hasn't indicated why some offers have been accepted and others have not.”
Do you know why the President did not accept foreign help when it was offered two months ago?
Well, we can only speculate and connect the dots. All that was required was a presidential waiver of an old law requiring all ships working in American waters be American vessels with American crews. Such a waiver would have allowed state-of-the-art ships from many countries to help with clean up and containment.
Bush waived the law immediately in the wake of Katrina.
Why has Obama waited for two months?
The law is widely seen as a measure protecting unions. Apparently Mr. Obama is more interested in protecting unions and preserving their political support than he is in protecting the Gulf and preserving ecosystems in Louisiana and Florida.
Not to let BP off the hook, but how convenient for the President to demonize BP and deep water drilling when government policies are responsible for forcing oil companies to drill in dangerous situations. How convenient for the President to attempt to use the oil spill crisis to forward his green agenda and force tax increases through Cap ‘n Trade. Americans should be outraged this President’s cynicism and personal politics take precedence over dealing effectively with this terrible crisis.
Obviously, this oil spill is far more devastating than Katrina. Add to the oil damage, the use of dispersants bringing even worse environmental damage.
Where are the howls of criticism today we heard after Katrina? Where are the Hollywood types lined up to crucify the President? Where are the media pundits and reporters all aghast at the incredible incompetence demonstrated by Obama and his crew of clowns? There were miscues after Katrina to be sure, but nothing compared to Obama’s colossal failure, yet the media hammered Bush for months and remains virtually silent about Obama. No wonder most Americans express deep distrust, even disdain, for ‘journalists.’
Just as this oil spill reveals the true Barack Obama, it is also revealing the gross and despicable bigotry and partisan blindness resident in Tinsel Town and the halls of power in major media organizations throughout the country.
Some have said the continuing leak is God’s judgment on America for her many sins---abortion, immorality generally, forsaking Israel---but who can say for sure?
We can say with certainty that judgment has fallen on the Obama administration for its total lack of responsible leadership in the face of this crisis, and so many others, namely, the economy, jobs, corruption, special interests, transparency, the war on terror, Afghanistan, Iran, healthcare, growth in government, taxes, deficits, debt, immigration, national security, morale in the military, education, finance reform, racial tensions.
Don’t worry. Be happy. The President has a commission formed up to get right on that there crisis or other.
Rahm: “Can’t we blame that on Bush too?”
What should he be doing? Heritage has a few suggestions:

Comments
Hurricanes are acts of God: unavoidable, unmanageable, uncontrollable. Katrina was one of the worse ever. Oil spills are acts of man: avoidable, manageable, controllable, with the right people in leadership. Obviously drilling in deep water is too risky. Obviously they didn't drill the well correctly. Obviously the emergency response has been terrible. The wrong people are in leadership.
