Due to an expected winter storm on February 10, Mayor Bloomberg and NYC Schools Chancellor announced all New York City public schools would be closed tomorrow. It is predicted that the winter storm may dump 8-13 inches of snow on NYC and Long Island. Private and parochial schools are also closed.
Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education Joel Klein said, “While travel conditions to school in the morning may not be difficult, the weather is expected to worsen as the day progresses, complicating dismissal.” Klein added, “We are making this decision today to give parents as much time as possible to make alternative plans for tomorrow.”
Last year, March 02, NYC schools were closed for the first time in 5-years. That closing was not without controversy because the mayor waited until the morning of to announce the closing.
Many parents suddenly facing childcare issues lambasted the mayor and chancellor for delaying the closings. Private and parochial schools announced the closings at the beginning of the winter storm.

Governor Patterson announced, in anticipation of the inclement weather and high accumulation of snow the National Guard will be ready and equipped with humvees, located on Staten Island. The governor reiterated the NY schools closing for Wednesday, February 10, 2010.
The East Coast's continued Snowmageddon is expected to dump another 20-inches of snow on the DC area. The House of Representatives canceled votes for the week, meaning the chamber will be out of session through Feb. 22
According to a report by Politico, The federal government remains closed, and snowplows and front-end loaders outnumber regular vehicles around the Capitol complex.
The winter storm also cancelled professional drinking. The "Slow News Tuesday" happy hour, a gathering of the city’s journalists, was postponed for later this month.
On Groundhog Day, Staten Island Chuck predicted an early spring. Many residents will be thinking about warmer days as all NYC public school kids enjoy a snow day tomorrow.

I know some kids here in Forney who are crossing their fingers for snow/ice Thursday!lol Snow in Texas, it happens sometimes. Feel sorry for the East coast though..brrrr
It MUST be a lot of snow for NY to close down! We get an inch here, and it shuts the entire town down. Seriously.
