Video: SNL skit makes fun of President Obama's accomplishments, or lack thereof

This time President Obama is the center of humor. AP Photo Alex Brandon

Yesterday Saturday Night Live took an amusing look at the Obama Presidency and the Republican criticism he has encountered.  In the skit the actor portraying President Obama takes on those who have attacked him for taking over health care, supporting gay rights, and leaving Iraq.  In his defense the President states that he has in fact done nothing in his Presidency to warrant such accusations, and he really does mean nothing.

The skit does a great job of illustrating how in fact the President has not really moved on many of the proposals Republicans attacked him for during the campaign.  The President has not in fact closed Guantanamo Bay, U.S. troops are still in Afghanistan, gays are still not allowed to openly serve in the military, and most significantly health care reform has not been passed.

Saturday Night Live vents the frustration of many liberals in this skit who feel the President is not really delivering the "change" they vote for in November.  The final chapters have not been written on the Obama Presidency.  The President could still redeem himself among liberals if he passes health care reform and delivers on his promise to close Guantanamo Bay soon.  Right now however the SNL version of President Obama may have a good rebuttal to Republicans when he states that he has done little to draw their fury.

Obama's administration is looking a lot like four more years of George Bush. Afghanistan? Same. Iraq? Same. Being a divider, not a uniter. Same. Closing Guantanamo? Same. No health care reform. Same. Big spender? Same.

I’m a Republican who voted for Obama because I just couldn’t see the Bush years getting an extension through McCain’s leadership. I thought the SNL skit was dead-on and hilarious. But what I find even more hilarious are the far right wing lunatics who believe Obama to be a dictator. Now that's funny! The left is not happy with Obama because he's not doing anything, but to the rabid far right think he's gone too far?

Ryan, I think you have this all wrong. Saturday Night Live aired a skit last night that poked fun at the President and it did nothing for those of us who are conservative except make us laugh.
I think that those that are liberal will say one of two things:
"What was I thinking when I voted for him?"
or "How dare they poke fun at the President?"

The left gains nothing by this and the right had nothing to lose.

so true Amy. The time for SNL to poney up was BEFORE the Election. Wonder how funny SNL will be when Citicorp or Bank of America go belly up.

I have a different take on this. SNL did a great job in pointing out what Obama has not done since he got into office; but it’s not entirely his fault; since he inherited bigger messes that he did not anticipate left from the previous administration. The Right is doing everything possible they can do to slow the health care reform down. That way he is unable get anything else done… desperately wanting him to fail. While some people forget, Pres Obama got things done in his first 100 days in office. The Right was infuriated while complaining that he was doing “too much”. Which way is it? It seems that going in slow motion would be too fast for the Righties! SNL pointed this out in a humorous way. I thought it was hilarious!

    Lu:
Let's get real here for a sec.
    1. The excuse of "he inherited it" is really getting thin. I can just as easily say that Bush inherited the War on Terror from Clinton, as 9/11 happened 6 1/2 months after he took office. The Bush administration was operating under crappy intelligence from the Clinton Admin. (You prolly don't rememeber it, but it was Clinton/Gore who started the whole "Iraq has WMD's!", not Bush.)
    2. The skit was done by left comedians about lefty issues, from a lefty point of view. It didn't cover the Stimulus Bill, the Omnibus Bill, TARP, trying to regulate CO2, the scrapping of the space program, taking over GM, and the Banks, AIG, or staffing his cabinet with criminals, socialists, and Radicals.
    3. The Democrats HAVE A SUPER MAJORITY, the Republicans can't stop them from doing anything as long as they are united. Therefore, if the Dems can't get anything done, it's because the Dems are divided and ineffective from party infighting. That's not the Repubs fault.

The Conservative wing of the Repub Party actually desperately wants the COUNTRY to succeed.
The Conservative Right is doing everthing possible to preserve the Constitutional Republic and to slow down the move towards Marxist/Socialist takeover.
What BHO got done was a LARGE tax grab via Tax and Trade and a Another LARGE pork spending bill called the Stimulus. He also enacted the "Spread the wealth" as he promissed he would to Joe the Plumber. ie, he nationalized the Automotive industry and stole peoples dealership businesses.
He has enacted a whole "Court" of Czars that effectively bypass the Legislative arm of the government.
Now he wants to set in motion legislation that will eventually take over the entire Health Care system.
What needs "REFORMING" is this illegal grab for power so prevalent in this and the previous Admin.

ummmm I think Bank of America is owned by China - so that bank is definitely not going to go *belly up*

    Observant,

I hope you're right. It has had two very BAD purchases; a mortgage basket case and a shady brokerage firm. It took TARP funds and is an upside down Pyramid in OTC synthetic Derivatives...you know the trillion word. Don't get me started on Citicorp.

China's real $$ exposure may have dropped to only $400 billion or so...what with business, commodity and "Land" purchases. It would seem they don't need this bank....not to the extent they would want to be exposed to infinite liability wrt CDSs. But hope you're right.
