Video: Jon Stewart explains the real reason liberals do not like Sarah Palin

No one can dispute the fact that liberals are no fan of Sarah Palin.  What is in dispute is what is behind the liberal attitude against Palin.  Conservatives have said that liberals are simply angry that Palin is attractive, that she lives out her conservative values, and that she is successful and popular.  As Stewart notes one conservative commentator went as far as to claim that liberals were upset because Palin chose to have a down syndrome baby when liberals would not.

As Stewart explains the real motivation behind the liberal angst with Palin actually stems from the perception that Palin is a kind of "empty" conservative.  Palin continually gives out conservative talking points about generally favoring freedom, lowering taxes, and returning to the American values which made us a great nation but behind such talking points is little actual policy or realistic solution from the liberal viewpoint.

For example liberals question how we can realistically lower taxes (as Palin proposes) while balancing the budget as Palin claims.  Palin may say we would "cut spending" but such spending cuts would have to include cuts in either defense, social security, or Medicare to realistically pay for significant tax cuts.  Liberals wonder how in favor of "freedom" Palin would be when it came to repealing the Patriot Act, increasing restrictions on a woman's right to an abortion, or "profiling" Muslim soldiers.

Liberals can live with a conservative like Ron Paul who at least is consistent in his advocacy for freedom.  While they disagree with Paul's policy proposals they can at least respect his intellecualism and willingness to stick to the same principles.  Palin on the other hand seems to simply be boilerplate of conservatism with no real substance to liberals.

I stick with support of Congressman Paul precisely because of his consistency, loyalty to the Constitution, and honesty in communicating his principles to we the People.
We need more honest statesmen and women like him in Congress and the Senate!

If SP actually ran in the primaries, I'd switch my party affiliation just to vote for Romney. It's all fun and games until she actually wins.

The word "liberal" has been perverted. "Liberal" and "libertarian" are both derived from the word "liberty", and what was called "liberal" is now called "classical liberal", which is to me synonymous with "libertarian".

Today, I think that when some people say "liberal" they really mean "socialist", but "liberal" is to "liberty" as "socialist" is to "slavery". Saying "liberalism equals socialism" is like saying "freedom equals slavery", straight out of Orwell's 1984.

And what is "conservatism"? Americans should be conserving the liberty that their ancestors fought for against the English tyrants. I think that "neoliberalism" and "neoconservatism" are appopriate labels for the cause of using deception to enslave freedom loving liberals, conservatives, and libertarians.

    The REAL reason....?

They started a campaign of personal destruction like I've never witnessed, the day McCain announced her as his pick for VP.

Libs never mentioned any of this as reasons before, but I'm glad the truth is finally coming out. What a joke.

If specifics were important, "HOPE & CHANGE" would have required an explanation!

Tax cuts have proven in the past to actually stimulate the economny which in turn leads to more 'tax revenue'. This is a well know fact and wasn't even denied by Obama during the campaign, but he still said it wouldn't be 'fair' to lower taxes for some anyway.

There's also waste, fraud, and corruption to do away with! How about pork barrell spending? I can think of things to cut, libs just can't imagine it!

I completly agree with John Steward. Looks like she talks as a sake of talking but there is not substance to what she says. You need an intellecual candidate not just woman who works out to look good. She may be good looking on many people's page, but she is just agressive go geter and nothing else to offer. If her values were high, her teen age daughter would not be pregnnat. Guy could not keep thing inside, but what about daughter? She is looking to blame someone for her true image in the public. Unknowledgeable about politics.

Jon Liebowitz is an unoriginal moron, even though I agree with him that Sarah Palin doesn't represent Conservatives with any intelligence whatsoever, but to sit there and act like Conservatives are unintelligent is absolute blasphemy. Every problem stems from Liberals and then Conservatives have to figure out a way to correct them. Medicare and Medicaid were Ted Kennedy's debacle, No child left behind was another Ted Kennedy's brilliant ideas, Clinton had the CIA completely dissolved to "cut the deficit" which led to 9/11... so then we had to clean up that mess. No, Jon, Liberals are the problem... God I'd love to go toe to toe with moron's like this... You're all a bunch of phonies, fakes, and hacks. Romney/Lieberman 2012

I'm a classic liberal and I've been one of Ron Paul's biggest supporters for years. Do I agree with all of his principles? No. But I understand them and respect his fortitude in sticking to them for years. All my liberal friends, who were so mad at me for not supporting Obama, are starting to come around.

I'll take an honest, intelligent man over an empty suit anyday, both Palin and Obama are pretty, but empty.

Wow. Mark (comment below) is a very angry and disingenuous "conservative." For one thing, Mark, if you're pimping Lieberman--you're a NEOCONSERVATIVE, not a conservative. And Romney? He's practically a Democrat! Man, you're an unintentionally funny guy, some may even say a touch retarded, but I'm too polite for that.

Still blaming Clinton for all of Bush's errors. Hey, how do you blame Clinton for the Patriot Act, torture, the Iraq war, renditions, etc? I want to see just how creative you are, angry man.

ha ha, and should I believe this crap? if the reason is that why don't they simply discard her? no the reason is she is a threat to liberals. and that's why they are fund raising to attack her. liberals know that she is going to be hard on them. and by the way, i see how far liberals come down that now a cheesy comedian like stewart defines their agenda :))

I am a loyal Democrat and I love Saeah Palin. She may prove to be of great assistance to us among voters who actually think.
