Governor Jan Brewer (R-AZ) has made a national name for herself by signing SB 1070 (the Arizona immigration law) and fighting the federal government to uphold the law. Because of the popularity of SB 1070 in Arizona, Governor Brewer's reelection was considered a near sure thing. She led in the most recent Rasmussen Reports poll by a 57%-38% margin over challenger Terry Goddard. However, whether because of hubris or lack of preparation, Governor Brewer suffered from a disastrous debate performance against Goodard last night. Some are saying that Brewer looked so bad that it may once more make the race competitive.
It all began with Brewer's opening statement, which should be the easiest part of any debate. Most statements are carefully written and memorized ahead time as it the candidates chance to get their message out uninterrupted. Governor Brewer, however, seems to have forgotten her lines. After creating a full ten second of awkward silence on live television, Governor Brewer laughs and continues with her statement about fighting the Obama administration.
Later in the debate itself Governor Brewer was asked about her previous statements in which she claimed beheadings were occurring in the state of Arizona. Goodard argued that the false stories spread by people like Brewer were scaring tourists from coming to Arizona. There is no evidence of any beheadings occurring in Arizona, and certainly not any evidence of beheadings related to illegal immigration. Despite this lack of evidence, Brewer refused to take back the beheadings claim and instead avoided the question. Later when confronted by reporters on the same issue Brewer again avoided the question and simply walked away from reporters.

Brewer has lost the press...very bad for someone running for office...not fatal, but a wounding blow none the less....you walk away from reporters and they will be out to get you...Brewer, keep your nose clean because you will be scrutinized by the press after this...they smell blood in the water and you losing after starting with a big lead will make great headlines for those reporters you walked away from.

Even if the press did "scandalize" her from day one, which I am sure is not a good choice of words, they sure are not going to be happy about her demeanor and behavior last night. The downright disregard and tone she had with them most certainly did not score her any points with them and a candidate most definitely wants to at least make an attempt to be amiable with the press for obvious reasons. Wow! As an independent who was wavering, I sure saw all I had to see in the debate and the aftermath to tilt me in the direction that I will be heading this election. I'd like to see the polls now.

Unfortunately, being a total buffoon with less IQ than a sea cucumber is actually a big advantage with Arizona voters - in fact it's practically a requirement for public office. This after all is the state that produced Ev "Pickaninny" Meachem and J.D. Hayworth (voted by his own colleagues the dumbest member of congress). Then there are the really insane ones, like Karen Johnson and Barbara Blewster who claim that homosexuality is the same thing as bestiality and cannibalism and that kindergarten teachers should pack heat. Jan Brewer could run naked through downtown Phoenix randomly spraying onlookers with machine gun fire and still get elected.
I believe that it was my own Republican Party who reminded me in the last election how....with democrates in charge of both houses of Congress that we needed a Republican in the White House to maintain a balance of power. I will support Terry Goddard because he is articulate, smart, capable, does his own thinking and talking, and we need the same kind of safeguards with a balance of power here in the state. Go Terry!

GOP propaganda machine is running at flank speed. Yes I vote! I wish many others did.I feel we are in a full throttle nosedive. I don't know if we can recover. The propaganda machine says that this is the way to go. At the end of 8yrs of BS we are going to go back to the same ones who bought us the worldwide recession ,a war that will go on foreverand don't have any knowledge or intention of fixing anything. we are in DEEP KIMCHEE!
