Green Jobs Czar Van Jones is a new target of Glenn Beck.
Having discovered the backlash involved in calling the President a racist Glenn Beck has now moved on to the President's Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones, as his new target.
In the video below Glenn Beck uses ominous background music, nifty video editing (notice the "raw footage" line edited into many Jones clips), and Beck's craftily written distortions to try to make Van Jones out to be a villain within the Obama administration. Using such methods I think one could demonize Mother Theresa if they really had such a desire.
In reality Van Jones is no Mother Theresa. He has a past which would be considered "radical" by many and progressive by others. He was arrested twice but Beck neglects to mention the fact that the charges were dropped and Van Jones won a lawsuit based on the unlawful arrest in one case. Beck also never mentions that most of these "radical" activities of Jones occurred well over a decade in the past. These are just some of many facts Beck leaves out in his selective disinformation campaign against Jones.
Beck's arguments against President Obama and Jones rely on two faulty logical assumptions. First, Beck advocates guilt by association in saying Jones and Obama are guilty believing and advocating everything that those around them believe. Secondly, Beck assumes that whatever one does in the past is equivalent to what they will do in the future.
To illustrate to the fault in Beck's logic let me use the same logic to attack Beck. Let me be clear I do not believe these statements. I am simply using them to demonstrate the kind of absurd statements you must accept if you also accept Beck's guilt by association and guilt by past logic.
First, using Beck's logic we could say that he is a big believer in excessive drug use. After all, Beck has admitted to a past filled with alcohol and substance abuse. Beck also recently interviewed Rush Limbaugh who also admitted to the abuse of controlled substances. Clearly if we follow Beck's logic he believes in the free use of currently illegal substances and a drug-based culture.
Secondly, based on Beck's past we must assume he is opposed to traditional family values. Beck divorced his first wife partially due to his substance abuse. Beck's previous friendly interviews with Mark Sanford demonstrate his complete disregard for the sanctity of marriage. Clearly, based on Beck's logic we can assume he does not believe the traditional family unit to be an essential part of the American way of life.
Finally, based upon Beck's logic we can also question his past with the Church of Latter Day Saints. The church has been criticized by some for its past associations with polygamy. Some critics claim the church also holds racist beliefs. If we can assume the worst about Van Jones can we not also assume the worst about Glenn Beck based upon our worst assumptions of the Church of Latter Day Saints (even false allegations).
Some will say I am comparing apples and oranges. To those people I would simply say if you believe my attacks on Glenn Beck are a bogus manipulations of facts (which they are) then you also must concede the attacks on Van Jones are a stretch from reality. If you accept Beck's logic you must also accept the same logic used against Beck.

Ryan Witt, your article is a simple Ad Hominem attack (since you are a BIG FAN OF LOGIC). Because Glenn Beck had a problem with substance abuse doesnt mean that he is for substance abuse, and quiet frankly has nothing to do with the fact that Van Jones is a communist.
Quiet frankly, this is a pretty awful article that addresses NOTHING of Becks argument. Why not take "points" that Beck clearly makes and address them, rather than attacking Becks past as a basis to discredit his argument.

I completely agree with Ad Hominem. If this Ryan Witt clown ever bothered to listen to Glenn, he would know that Glenn is simply stating the FACT that Van Jones has said he is a communist and a radical and has NEVER recanted those statements. That is the straight truth with no spin attached. The idea that a communist is let anywhere near the White House and President is insane. What Glenn says about Van Jones is not an attack- it is simply quoting Vans own words. If he is no longer a communist/radical, why wont he say so? I think Glenn Beck is absolutely right. President Obama said during his campaign to judge him on who he surrounds himself with and it seems they are all radical, marxist, or communists. What does that tell you? Watch out America he is trying to do serious harm to our country.
Beck doesn't say he HAD a problem with substance abuse, he says "I am a recovering alcoholic." Is Jones a Recovering Communist? Are YOU basically the same person that you were 10 years ago or have you radically changed your beliefs? I have had 3 government jobs and for all 3 I had to sign an affidavit saying I have never belonged to an organization that seeks to overthrow the government of the United States. Apparently, an advisor to the president has no such restriction. I believe your statements are a bogus manipulation of the facts. That does not mean that EVERY interpretation of facts is a bogus manipulation.

How does being a Communist and seeking to overthrow the government add up? This is the kind of misinformation that Glen Beck and his cohorts spout. Communism isn't a form of government, it is an economic policy. Communism doesn't equal dictator ship. Conversely, Democracy does not equal Capitalism. Plenty of countries with a Socialistic economy have Democracies.
And it kills me that this is the string of logic: Single-payer = Communism = Dictatorship. Single-Payer health care fits right in with conservative values.

Such a typical approach when facts/issues/arguments/assertions are "difficult" to disprove the person laying out the information ALWAYS becomes the target of PERSONAL attacks. When has Van Jones denied or defended any of the accusations against him as seen on video. Van Jones has been offered the time to come on Glenn Becks show and defend himself. When is Van Jones coming to defend and deny the allegations against him. That absence of Van Jone's on Glenn Beck's show speaks legions about his guilt and his proposals add even more to a continuing courtship with his past. Mr. Beck, as a recovered alcoholic, has changed his ways, while Van Jones makes no such claims regarding his communism and radicalism.
Glenn has admitted to his faults. He publicly tries to atone for his past. We hear none of that from Van Jones. Van Jones participated and then proceeded to be part founder of several radical left wing organizations. Van Jones admitted to actively pursuing in his own words "Marxist and radical revolutionist" ideas. Van Jones admitted to becoming a communist. Van Jones has never once taken back these statements. He has never once said that his ideas were wrong. I keep hoping that people like the author of this article could address these problems instead of attacking Glenn Beck who is the only real journalist this country knows right now.

Yea, you can't judge Van Jones by his past. I'm sure he has changed just like OJ Siimpson has. He is not that same guy he was many, many years ago, like back in the early 2000's when Jones and STORM had ties to the South African Communist Party. That was back so far I can't even remember. In today's polarizing times, the right and the left people support their own people in the political power and the media. Very few people analyze the facts in an unbiased way. I watched The Glen Beck show, and I was apalled that Van Jones is working for The White House.
And this "journalist" thinks because Jones was arrested more than a decade ago, we should all forget his past.
