Update: Mike Huckabee issues statement attempting to shift blame on clemency of Maurice Clemmons

Maurice Clemmons has become a political hand grenade that no one wants to be left holding.  Clemmons is the "person of interest" in the executive-style killing of four police officers from the state of Washington.  Clemmons had a violent criminal past in both Arkansas and Washington before the shootings.  One sixty-year sentence Clemmons received was later commuted by then-Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas nine years agoClemmons is now reportedly cornered in a Seattle home and may be dead from gunshot wounds according to police.

In response to the news Mike Huckabee has issued a statement which essentially points the finger at others who dealt with Clemmons instead of himself.  In the statement Huckabee mentions the fact that Clemmons' sentence was commuted but never even mentions that fact that he was the man who commuted Clemmons' punishment.  However later in the statement Huckabee is quick to point out others who played a role in Clemmons past.  Specifically Huckabee points at the parole board and prosecutors for their handling of Clemmons saying

This commutation making him parole eligible and was paroled by the parole board once they determined he met the conditions at that time. He was arrested later for parole violation and taken back to prison to serve his full term, but prosecutors dropped the charges that would have held him."

It is important to note that prosecutors in Arkansas objected to Huckabees commutation of Clemmon's sentence for earlier crimes before they dropped subsequent charges against him.  It is possible that prosecutors knew the evidence against Clemmons for more recent crimes was weak and wanted Clemmons to serve out his full sixty-year prison term for the earlier crimes.

Huckabee, I won't even give him the previlege of being called "Mr.", is a TURD. That man, Clemmons, would still be in jail if Huckabee had not commuted him. I think it is cowardly for Huckabee to start pointing the fingers at others. He commuted the killer, over objections from prosecuters and lawmen, and now he's blaming the justice system. The idiot, when Huckabee was governor, HE WAS THE JUSTICE SYSTEM, and HE failed the public.

Anyone ask Michael Dukakis what he thinks of this? Hmmm. Very interesting. He was a cuddly conservative (well, he was never REALLY a conservative - just a far right winger). Now he's a has been. Okay, which jowly extremist is next?

Grossly negligent with misguided sympathies toward dangerous criminals AND shifting blame to others?! He definately should change parties. Nobody could stop him.
