Sarah Palin emails reveal an attempted tanning bed coverup and blacklisting of journalist

Sarah Palin was sought to hide the tanning bed installment.  AP Photo

The emails from Sarah Palin's reign as Governor of Alaska have finally been made public.  As expected the press is now looking through over 3,000 pages of emails and some interesting discoveries are being made.

One theme that has emerged from the emails is the intense involvement of "First Dude" Todd Palin in the official duties of Governor Palin.  Todd Palin was involved in everything from judicial appointments to contract negotiations with public employee unions.  During the Clinton years Bill Clinton was criticized for allowing First Lady Hillary to have a voice in official government affairs but there was no such scrutiny for Todd Palin.

One of the more interesting emails involves Sarah Palin carefully overseeing the installment of a tanning bed for her and her family in Alaska's executive mansion.  The installment of a tanning bed was difficult given the need to connect to an outlet that could supply the tremendous amount of energy it consumes.  Palin directed the state's staff where to have the tanning bed installed and also made sure that made sure that the entire matter was kept quiet from the press.  At this time Palin was not even under the national spotlight but she clearly was already leery of the press.

Another email also show Palin's contempt for any criticism from the press at the time.  Palin slams one of the local newspapers for running a critical editorial of her.  Todd Palin then directed that the paper not receive any press releases from the Governor for a while.  When Fox News was allegedly been "blacklisted" by the Obama administration Palin was very critical of the administration for such moves.  It now seems that her own administration used the same kind of tactics during her time in office.

Tanning-bed gate has finally been leaked to the press. Fortunately we live in what was once a formerly free society where these egregious examples of civil dalliance can't be kept secret. Forget the fact that at those northern latitudes the sun never rises for six months out of the year. Operting those huge 40 watt flourescent lamps cast huge amounts of CO2 into the environment; an amount that has not been seen since the Copenhagen global warming summit.

Palin put a tanning bed in the governor's mansion.
Whether she wanted the press to know about it or not is really irrelevant considering she was allowed to install one and is covered by the mansion budget as all remodeling and furnishings,etc..are each time a new governor takes office. Just like the white house.

And speaking of the white house and furnishings that might not appease the masses,..let's bring up the Obama christmas tree. Sorry,..holiday tree. In particular, the ornament depicting a picture of Mao Zedong.
I believe the public would have had a field day with the Obama fubar. However, this issue WAS known by the press and they simply swept it under the rug.

A Mao Zedong tree ornament. WOW!!
And folks wonder where Beck get's his "crazy ideas" from.

Sorry Ryan.....try as you might to divert attention from the current White House occupant (the incredible shrinking President), it won't work.

Sarah Palin is not the President; unfortunately, Barack Obama is. And his failures---e.g., inability to accomplish H/C Reform, even with a filibuster-proof Senate---will be the major political stories of 2010. Tanning bed use by the former Governor of Alaska is unlikely to garner much interest.

I agree Palin/Bachmann with Joe the Plumber's helper as chief of staff and Lee Greenwood as press sec. Glenn Beck could design the new china pattern for the white house. What a wonderful world it would be.

You can't compare Palin trying to write off a tanning bed with the Obama's tree ornament. The issue is Palin is crocked and obviously purchased an expensive item for her own vain use and then charged the taxpayers for it. The Obama's tree ornament was: created by Warhol as a satirical work of art, was not purchased by the Obamas, but left over from previous administration, and selected by a community group to be added to the decorations. Palin's corrupt behavior should not be over-looked. Instead, conservatives reactions should be "fair and balanced." As taxpayers, we should all be offended about Palin's corruption.

Are these people so twisted, desperate and stupid that they cannot fault ANY of Palin's policies? Why is it always personal?

She held multiple elected offices and other IMPORTANT positions in Alaska and it would seem these leftists have NO PROBLEM with her policy.

Mark: "silly little post"? Oooohhh, temper, temper.....you Obamorons are really becoming unglued. It only proves a point I've often made: conservative bloggers comment on public figures/current events, while liberals usually prefer to attack other bloggers. Conservatism is an intellectual pursuit; liberalism is purely emotion-based.

Obama's failed Presidency is a major story, with a lot of aspects worth exploring. It's legitimate to ask why---only two days after Jimmy Obama admitted defeat for his highest priority as President--the diarist is choosing to focus on Sarah Palin. Only reason I can think of is PDS--Palin Derangement Syndrome....an emotional disorder in which liberals are OBSESSED with the former Governor of Alaska.

trailrunner I like your style and I want you to come work with Team Glenn Beck. You have the ability to reduce the argument to well know sound bites heard on the AM radio. We'll let Glenn do the hard work of creating the conspiracy and then let you loose spreading the fear and hate. What say you?
You are not allowed on the wooden spaceship though, I'll tell you that right now. No promised land for you until you finish high school! I just want you to be able to manage expectations.

How about someone look into Todd's membership in the Alaska Independence Party? It was started by an anti-American named Joe Vogler that was pretty much the town crazy of Fairbanks. The sole purpose of the party is secession from the USA. Ever wonder why Gov Perry of Texas and Barbie Palin are such good friends? No need to wonder, they would both tear this country apart to achieve their political agenda.

Palin has policies? The woman was barley capable of running a state of 600,000 people where there is no income tax, in fact the state pays it's residents a yearly check, a state that has 10's of billions in the bank and its all funded by the oil coming out of the pipe. Her policy was a closed door deal with a foreign company to construct a natural gas pipe. Her policy was to redirect money for a bridge to her home town. Sure, talk about her policy.

Or was its Todd's policy? The emails tell the story. The man that wants to secede from the USA secretly running the state. You Betcha ;)

Why do I fight the progressives? It isn't only that they are pure evil. They are that; pure evil. I believe there is a higher purpose that will win out; our liberty. It is compelling. It is inevitable. It is our human destiny to secure our unalienable God given rights. Government will not secure those rights, so we must. I believe it so strongly I will not stop. It is inevitable that freedom will replace tyrany. The morphine of progressive government promises the the easy life at the expense of our freedom. Progressives believe that with more control they take away our will to resist. To limit our choices is to limit our freedom. That ultimately we will all just go along, get along. But I say live free or die.
Why do I fight it? Because I choose to.
