Republican representative wants to deport natural-born children of illegal immigrant parents

The Arizona immigration law has already brought a lot of heat on the Republican party, but rather than backing down some Republicans are calling for even harsher measures.  Leading the cause is Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) who advocated deporting children born in the United States if the child's parents are illegal immigrants.

Under current United States law, any person born on United States soil becomes a citizen and is entitled to all the rights thereof.  As ThinkProgress.org notes, the Supreme Court relied on the 14th Amendment, the clear rule that anyone born on U.S. soil is a citizen regardless of their parents' nationality.  If Rep. Hunter wanted to overturn this ruling he would effectively need to repeal the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  It seems that conservatives now advocate changing the U.S. Constitution rather than upholding it.

To replace the current standard established by the 14th Amendment, Rep. Duncan instead implies that citizenship should be decided by "what's in our souls."  No one really knows what would have to be in one's soul to qualify them for U.S. citizenship under Duncan's standard.  Would your soul have to attend a Tea Party rally and watch Fox News?  Would your soul need to give donations to the Republican Party in order to qualify?

It is worth noting that under Duncan's standard many of the Founding Fathers may not have qualified for citizenship.  After all, many of the Founding Fathers were actually born to parents of different nationalities.  Many Founding Fathers were born from "loyalists" who actually supported the British cause during the Revolutionary War.  Surely this would disqualify the Founding Fathers' souls from gaining citizenship under Duncan's proposal.

    You cannot be a "natural born" citizen if your parents (both) are not American citizens. You would have "native born" status. But that shouldn't matter to you because no reporter (so called) is currently required to be factual in their reporting. On the other hand, this may be the reason that you are posting here and not at the Wall Street Journal.

    Notice your statement:

    You provided no examples and posted no link to verify anything in this statement. Were you in a hurry to get into your next unverifiable propaganda piece?

    Don't post one, you said "Many founding fathers". So you are meaning either signers of the Declaration, or qualifying participants in the Federalist Papers or the designers of the Constitution.

    If someone reported that the earth is round, would you have to use a source.
    What do the Bible and the Constitution have in common? People defend the parts they like and justify why it's okay to throw away the parts they don't like. The problem is a person is not a collective people by design and different people like different things. Green Beans or French Fries. There are some who truly support the Constitution - the parts they like and the parts they don't. Those people are frequently bashed for being left-wing radical liberals and are maligned for pointing out the inconsistency in argument.

    If they were born here by illegal immigrants, that makes them illegal too. Simple. The consequences of crossing our borders illegally must be severe enough to discourage it.

    Now if we can just figure out how to justify deporting liberal wonks whose only hope of advancing their agenda is to mislead morons and people who don't speak the language.

    Illegal immigrants born in Mexico are not given automatic citizenship.Illegal immigrants in Mexico are given nothing except jail time and deportation.
    Read up on Mexico's immigration laws and realize how absolutely ridiculous it is that there is any debate at all about illegal aliens deserving rights or anything else here.They found their way here, they can find their way back out.

    You can't expect to be taken seriously when you support the 14th ammendment and then also support turning the other cheek and granting amnesty to illegal aliens when they enter the country illegally before having children.

    look...f%%k the illegals...do what you will with them...I don't defend them...the Arizona law is set up to DEMAND proof from brown Americans but not white Americans...it is a racist law....like I said, I don't care about illegals one way or the other, but America does NOT single out one color OF AMERICANS (again AMERICANS) and demand proof of citizenship from them...you keep throwing all brown people together and call them illegals...Arizona has half a million illegals, but it also has 2 MILLION brown AMERICANS...only those 2 million brown AMERICANS are in danger of arrest for forgetting their "PROOF"...and that doesn't include the 20 million passing through Arizona on I-10... THAT IS WHAT MAKES THIS LAW RACIST, not the illegals...you keep harping on the illegals.

    Regular Americans (still the majority) think the immigration laws should be enforced. Children should not 'inherit' citizenship from parents who are here illegally.

    This is common sense that the loony tunes (still the minority) can't get through their brain washed little minds. The government and big business benefit from this scheme. The rest of us don't.

    Getting the stranglehold of corruption out of DC is our country's only hope of survival.
