Rasmussen Reports has President Obama's approval rating sinking as Gulf oil spill story develops

Right or wrong, it seems that President Obama's approval rating is suffering along with the Louisiana wetlands.  According to all reports, the spill was caused by a number of failures on the part of British Petroleum, Haliburton, and Transocean.  Still, the American public expects answers and eventually the federal government takes the fall for a never-ending disaster.

The oil spill began 35 days ago.  Since that time, Rasmussen Reports has the President's approval rating going down from 47% to 44%.  The President's disapproval rating has gone up from 52% to 55%.  Perhaps most dramatic, the President  "approval index" number has gone down significantly from (-11) to (-18).  The approval index subtracts those who "strongly approve" by those who "strongly disapprove."  This measure shows the President may be losing some of his most enthusiastic supporters.  Those "strongly approve" voters either now "somewhat approve" or disapprove of the President.  It could be that the President is suffering amongst his liberal base who are now pushing for the federal government to take over the Gulf oil spill relief effort.

Of course, it is important to remember that correlation does not always mean causation.  It is possible that the President's approval rating is taking a hit from a number of other stories including the recent stock market drop, unemployment numbers, and the Times Square car bomb.  However, the Gulf oil spill has been the dominant story in the news cycle the last month.  Unemployment or a stock market drop dominates media for one or two days, but the oil spill has been news nearly every singled day.

No surprise! An R even won his district in what he says is his home state although his wife has stated otherwise.

Let's not forget the Gulf of Mexico is dying. That will effect us all. If he's willing to approve more rigs let his approval slide. He rigs elections. He's procoal. He's propetroleum. He's antigay. He's misogynist. He hangs with Rick Warren and Rasputin. Let them all sink.
