It is still very early but the polls so far have President Obama benefiting from passage of health care reform. All the reliable polls are "tracking" polls which generally average three of the past days results when they give out their numbers. Since health care reform passed through the House late last night no polls really incorporate Americans' opinion of the President since passage.
Having said that health care reform dominated the news over the past weekend and while health care reform had not officially passed most analyst were predicting its passage as early as last Thursday. Therefore many Americans were likely incorporating health care's passage in their most recent assessment of President Obama. So what do the two top polls say?
Rasmussen Reports has the President's overall approval rating at 47% which is three points higher than the 44% low he reached last week. The President's "approval index" number is (-12) which is significantly higher than the low of (-21) the President had last week. The "approval index" is measured by subtracting the number of likely voters who "strongly approve" by the number of voters who "strongly disapprove." Both Rasmussen polls are only of "likely voters" which is a model that generally favors Republicans.
Gallup has the President's approval rating at 50% with 43% disapproving. Last week Gallup had the President approval at a low of 46% with disapproval at a high of 48%.
It is impossible to predict the longer term effects of health care reform on the President's approval rating. Some think passage will help the President as more moderates come to his side when health care reform proves harmless and no "death panels" emerge. Others think passage will energize the President's opposition and cause them to spread their message to a wider base of the population.

Good luck....wait until the March unemployment numbers come out. The President lied in his SOTU address that his #1 priority in 2010 would be jobs. Once the country realizes that companies like Caterpillar have no intention of hiring new workers in the face of all these new mandates and regulations, they'll realize that this President fiddled on health care---for 14 months--- while the country and economy burned. And it will be very clear what Barry's real #1 priority was.

uh huh...now go play with your crayons Dameon
Poor little Walrus...most of us deal in facts and numbers; all he can do is try insults. That's what happens when you're supporting an incredible shrinking president.
During Barry's first year in office, the economy lost 4.1 million jobs...and the unemployment rate soared from 7.8% to over 10%. If you want to brag about a record like that, dude, have at it.
You guys make me laugh... Doom and Gloom only becomes more apparent to the eyes of the losers. You guys can keep playing political footsies and vote for your favorite Super Bowl Election picks but we have a President in office and whether you like him or not he is working diligently.
Yippee Ki Yay right?
I still have yet to see a Republican stand up since 2008 that gives me the impression that he can do a better job then Obama. Specially without ticking off the rest of the world and demeaning our own intelligence in the process..

look the country was binge drinking for 8 years, Obama comes in and he's responsible for the hangover??? look, without Obama we would have gone into a depression and the unemployment rate would be 20%...the economy would have lost 20 million jobs...you are just to stupid to understand that.
Shameful. Unsubstantiated claims that Barack Obama has saved us from depression and skyrocketing unemployment, and still blaming Dubya. Polls have consistently shown that jobs and the economy have been and continue to be Americans' top priorities and Obama selected health care as his pet project, which affects the average American more negatively than positively.
Names fly around, new catch phrases emerge, fright messages to scare the public into thinking that the other party is trying doom them to a hellish existence. In reality, it's just more big government intrusion into our lives, and that's just flat wrong. It's what our forefathers rebelled against, and it initiated the Revolutionary War. The federal government has proven many times that it is incapable of running social entitlement programs within budget. This will be no different.
Side note: most of you should go back to remedial English. My seven-year-old exhibits better grammar. Might bolster your credibility on blo
@ TS
your logic skills must be very limited...logic would tell you that a world economy (yes the world economy is what we are realy talking about) can NOT be "broken" in one or two years...it simply can not be...therefore, it can NOT be put on Obama's shoulders...no way, no how...it took years to break the economy and it will take years to "fix" it...when Obama took over we ALL knew already that the economy was broken, you just have a very short memory.
as for grammar, "you ain't nobody's grammar teacher"...go hang out with your seven-year-old for grammar...you seem to have a seven-year-old's understanding of the world economy anyway.
Settle down TS. You're a Glenn Beck watching Republican using polysyllabic words in a complete sentence. You're going to give yourself a nose bleed. To say that this is Obama's pet project is to ingnore the fact that Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Truman, LBJ, Carter, Nixon and Clinton also tried to reform healthcare. Why make it out like Obama is suddenly trying to push this alien, radical agenda on the rest of us. It's been a problem for quite some time.
And before anyone starts. I'm not Walrus.
Libretards, God Love 'em. That is if they believe in God.
Repubdopes, God hates you. He told me.
This is not about health care! This is about Obama keeping his promise to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA and that is the problem. It is nothing about his wanting more for AMERICA but LESS for the people and more for GOVERNMENT!
He could care less about heatlh care because he has not honored any long standing rules or laws or moral conduct let alone the constitution. This health care is just the catalyst for his progressive agenda to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA!
Like the birth of most communist, socialist counties..... they make their rules as they go and change things in the middle of the stream...there is no stopping them. THAT IS THE DANGER!
If you think for one second this is about health care....you have missed the whole point.
People have no idea what is trying to be done...you have so much going on at once no one can keep up..and it is WRONG!
Nationalization of education (student loans now are federally controlled), health care (federally controlled),
Cap a
Cap and trade ( the whole west part of the U.S is now under federal government and not state government...bozo just got another 100 MILLION acres of land under federal government to PROTECT IT......cannot do anything with it)....and now has Russians and Brazil doing offshore drilling on AMERICAN shores when AMERICA cannot)..this is federally controlled. Why can't AMERICA have those jobs and independence...why OTHER COUNTRIES??? EVERYTHING Is going to be federally controlled.
You have the Nationalization of banks, chasing big business out of the country.. Without working on jobs HE is deciding when AMERICA will work on jobs and give you the opportunity to stand up on your own two feet and provide for yourself. With unemoployment this high..why isn't he working on JOBS?
Deficit spending is valuable only if you get something more valuable in return for that spending. Otherwise, stimulus spending is just a ticket on the Argentina Express.
During the New Deal, we deficit-spent a
During the New Deal, we deficit-spent and in return, we got bridges, roads, dams, and entire power systems. And unemployment fell. Today, we are getting the promise of such systems, but not the results--the money is not being spent on tangible things, nothing is being built. Why?
Ask Japan. Financial markets have to be fixed from top to bottom with new "rules of the game" firmly in place before economic activity will be underpinned and stimulus will work. Again, ask Japan.
This is communism and socialism and how it starts. We have lost our voice and cannot speak up any longer because all laws and rules are broken and they don't have to listen to AMERICANS when they have spoken more loudly since the birth of this nation. They have ignored the majority of AMERICA VOICES rising up in unison to LISTEN...and get REFORM..not national health care.
Their selfishness to want more entitlement and having their lives and your grandchildren's lives and futures have been turned over to to
I think the basic premise of the article is sound. I think that the jump he got was from previously demoralized people on the Left, who will again be demoralized when they realize the Law as it stands favors the health insurance industry more than the individual. I don't for one minute think that the majority of the people supporting this Law think they are supporting Socialism and the Elimination of Personal Choice. But I also think they are sadly misinformed by their own talking heads.
Once they start asking: "It was supposed to fix --|| Insert Pet Issue Here ||-- but if anything, its worse! What gives?!?" If the Law Survives the INTENSE Judicial Review that it is likely to get in the SUpreme Court, this will be the only point that will register, and for different people the point will register at different points in time, so the effect will be muted.
However, Judicial Review does look to have the potential to step on this Bill Heavy! It could do a lot of damage!
;'{P
I dont know what is wrong with you people because the bill has many positive features for all American and who has not dealt with insurance companies that boots you out after years of paying them because of something they call preexisting conditions just another way to rip someone off, or their deductibles are so hi that only a very sick person would ever meet them, or premiums that an average person cannot pay. The bill states that.
1) Health insurance companies cannot refuse to offer coverage because of preexisting conditions
2) Health insurance companies cannot drop insurance coverage when people get sick
3) Health insurance companies cannot impose a lifetime limit on the amount of insurance bills they will pay for an individual
4) Children can stay on their parent's health insurance plan until the age of 26
5) People without insurance, or the self-employed, may purchase insurance through a health insurance "exchange" (meaning, a giant marketplace)
6) Individuals will be able
A lot of people are saying that the Constitutional Challenges are likely to fail. I beg to differ. I admit that they CAN fail, but I look to the Recent Track Record, the fact that Obama felt the Need to Malign the Supreme Court Decision on the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case.
ABC news did a "fact check" the SOTU.
Ouch! That hurt! For the most part, the President, at best, was saying things that were "somewhat" or "barely" true. (and it takes stretching to get there) BTW, this site won't let you link. Lame!
Look at the makeup of that vote. Look to the Court Precedents where State Law existed PRIOR to the Federal Law. Yes, in this case it is only days and weeks. Might make a difference. Might not. The 10th Amendment does Favor States Rights over Federal Laws. And some States are making Amendments to their Constitutions that will allow them to raise this challenge again, on Stronger Grounds.
There are other ways the Court could go. In the cases of Legalized Medical Marijuana Laws, the States are tacitly winning out over the Fedral Laws. In order to shoot down this challenge, the Feds could be forced to ACTIVELY shut down Pot Growers that are opperating Illegally under Federal Laws even though they are legal under *inferior* State Laws that popped up well *after* the Federal Laws.
Talk about noise! The illegal Pot Trade has been shut down in those states! But the Feds know EXACTLY where all the current LEGAL under STATE Law growers are at. How simple it would be to just go in and BUST them ALL!!! Oh, the people who need their pot would be hopping mad, and not at all mellow!
I know that a lot of people would get hurt by that, so I DON'T really want it to happen. However, it certainly would put an interesting spin on ObamaCare, wouldn't it?
If you like Pot, you'll hate ObamaCare!
;'{p~~~~
It has been said, "too much government is bad government".
Find out who this quote came from and you will find a founding father of this country who is and was correct.
GO OBAMA!! repubs suck it and jump in a bed with bush hes your president rather u like it or not its early in the game and hes gonna come out as the best president we ever had.watch and see
No offence liberalbabe, but I don't think we all have the same hope in Obama as in the election, he really hasn't done anything, only focusing on this issue
if you people don't like it, then leave. im positive you won't find a better country. this is what people voted for when the voted for change! and everyone who asks how is the change working for us..its working great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for caring
Trailrunner, the facts are against you! You blame Obama for the job losses that were clearly the responsibility of Bush! The job losses and economic crash started in Bush's reign! They carried over and are still carrying over! Bush took the National debt from 5 trillion to over $10 Trillion dollars! No my friend the facts show that it is the Conservatives who are the LIBERAL SPENDERS. We will be suffering the ills of Mr Bush for a long time no matter WHO is president. Get a grip on reality sir.
