A look in photos, right, at Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, Republican candidate for governor of Tennessee.
Ramsey, from Blountville, is campaigning on his leadership in the Tennessee General Assembly, where he guided the GOP to a 19-14 majority in the Senate and is the first Republican speaker of the Senate in 140 years.
Ramsey claims to be the most conservative candidate in the field and has vowed to cut state government substantially. He has railed against what he sees as an oppressive federal government and says Washington is out of control.
Ramsey says the top three issues facing the state are "jobs, jobs and jobs."
An advocate for small businesses, he is strong on Second Amendment rights, adherence to the Tenth Amendment on state sovereignty and is a pro-life candidate.
Ramsey has been among the most vocal figures in the state against illegal immigration and has recently energetically shown support for Arizona's new immigration enforcement law. He has been one of the leaders on fighting back against the new federal health care law.
He says he has "blood on the floor" in Tennessee's historic income tax fight and vows there will not be an income tax in the state.
Ramsey has the strong support of numerous tea party members and has enjoyed the endorsement of key legislators.
