Macon's Dr. James Beverly is poised to make run for House District 139 seat

Optometrist James Beverly  is poised to start his politicial career in a Friday morning press conference on May 20th in downtown Macon with the announcement that he will be a candidate for David Lucas' soon-to-be-vacant House District 139 seat.

Lucas, the veteran state legislator, has represented the city of Macon through the Georgia House of Representatives since 1974.

However, Lucas is now eyeing Robert Brown's state Senate seat because the longtime state Senator since 1991 is now running for mayor of Macon and will qualify before June 10th.

For the first time in a generation, the political landscape here in the Macon area is changing and there are younger challengers ready to submit their name in an effort to serve their community along with the state of Georgia through the Georgia General Assembly.

Beverly, the father of three, has built a record of serving the community as a physican through his medical practice, Goggles Eyecare 4 Kids and in his preparation of running for office, Beverly had recently earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard.

Many folks in Macon not only know Beverly for his work as a physician, but he has helped to build low-income homes in the East Macon area along with offering free eye exams to kids locally.

Beverly's experience as a doctor will come in handy if he becomes the next state represntative for the Macon area.

Conservatives on the national and state level have made efforts to repeal President Barack Obama's health care reform law and even Georgia's new governor Nathan Deal along with Attorney General Sam Olens had recently filed suit against the federal government in an effort to 'Stop Obamacare'.

Even though this is Beverly's first attempt at public office, he did serve in 2008 as an 8th Congressional District Delegate.

Currently, the Georgia Republicans are in complete control of the General Assembly. Right now, there are only 63 Democrats in the House out of 180 total members. In the State Senate, Democrats only hold 20 of 56 total seats.

Miriam Paris and Dr. James Beverly are scheduled guests  on Al Tillman's weekly public affairs show this Saturday, May 21st at 10:30 am. The radio broadcast is on AM-1280 WIBB here in Macon.
