Longtime Jones County Commissioner David Gault has decided to run for the Georgia House District seat 125, and apparently he is the only Democrat running and will likely lead to an eventual showdown with former Monticello mayor Susan Holmes or Mary Alice Carter--both Republican challengers.
No other Democrat qualified so Gault will run unopposed in the primary on July 20th.
The House District 125 seat is currently held by State Representative Jim Cole of Forysth. Earlier this year, Governor Sonny Perdue had chosen Cole to be the next Secretary of State, replacing Karen Handel who was running for governor.
However, within a matter of days, Cole had decided against taking the job.
Cole had explained he was in the process of leaving public service and looking over opportunities at Mercer University .
District 125 consists of three county area that includes Jones, Monroe and Jasper.
Gault didn’t give any public indication that we was strongly considering running for a seat on the Georgia Assembly. However, Gault’s qualifying has caused him to vacate his seat on the Jones County Board of Commissioners.
Gault had been part of the Jones County Commission since 2001 and was the vice chairman during two successive four year terms .
According to his biography from the Jones County Commissioners' website, Mr. Gault is married and the father of five children and has three granddaughters. He is a veteran of two terms in the U.S. Navy, one of which he served on an aircraft carrier that helped run the Cuban blockade.

david gault is not a true representative of this area population. Actually he's a "Yankee Import" so he should't have any problem selling out us "Southerners...........You Know they think we are dumb hicks.
Well, I just don't think Mr. David Gault would be a good choice for District 125, I've watched him for a few years now and I just don't think he has the ability to stay focused on the agenda. I believe Mr. Gault does not have the leadership experience required for this position and there is some whom have voiced concern over his being a good family role model for this District 125. This is the Bible Belt and we do need a representative reflective of our conservative approach to Family and Marriage.
