Dr. Theirfelder also expressed that he's concerned that the federal government is attempting to legally violate their religious rights.
"That's unacceptable. That's not an American thing to do," said the school's President.
Student Theresa Benson added, "It's actually kind of scary that the government can do that. It makes me proud of my college that they're standing up and doing something about it."
Fellow student, Kate Drinkwater "I justbelieve that we should uphold our Catholic moral values and just stand for what we believe in."
Who Exactly Is Thomas Becket?
Some have pointed to what they believe is ironic that the Thomas Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is representing Belmont Abbey in this upcoming court case.
St. Thomas a' Becket, the Catholic Patron Saint of Exeter College in England who stood firm against England's King Henry II when the King attempted to interfere with The Church's ecclesiastical affairs.
Henry II had St. Thomas murdered while he was leading prayers in Canterbury Cathedral.
The King's assassins attempted to forcibly drag him from the cathedral, "but were unable, and in the end they slew him where he stood, scattering his brains on the pavement."
