Islamic vs. Islamism

Commentary

OK, I'll admit it. I'm an unabashed fan of the English Defence League.

No doubt my O'Swany, Perez and Weithmann ancestors are furious with me for even coming within 20 yards of anything English and not opening fire. Or at least throwing a brick or two.

But I digress, why would someone who was essentially raised to hate the English, be such a proponent of the English Defence League?

I'm of the opinion that they are second to none in European when it comes to standing up to and fighting against the radical Muslim conquest of the continent.

Sure, there are plenty of organizations and  political parties that are patriotic to not only their Patria, but to Western Civilization itself.

But when it comes to putting your money when your mouth is, the EDL is the Pound Sterling of modern day Crusaders of Christendom.

I relate to these guys. They aren't a bunch of politicians in three piece suits spewing forth nothing but balloon juice.

In a day and age where the words "patriotism" and "sacrifice" are usually condescendingly sneered at by the multi-culturalism braying liberals, The EDL embraces these words... makes them a part of their personal ethos.

I admire that. Not many people adhere to those virtues much anymore. The EDL; my beloved Marine Corps; the British RMs; a handful of ANZACs and Canucks.

A few others, but too damned few.

But Getting Back To The Title...

I've heard both phrases used in the media. Unfortunately, many are under the impression that they are synonymous with each other.

That's far from the truth.

According to TheFreeDictionary.com,

ISLAMIC - 1. A monotheistic religion characterized by the acceptance of the doctrine of submission to God and to Muhammad as the chief and last prophet of God.

ISLAMISM - 1. An Islamic revivalist movement, often characterized by moral conservatism, literalism, and the attempt to implement Islamic values in all spheres of life.
Quiet the difference, wouldn't you say?

One final thing I'd like to point out to those who swallow hook, line and sinker the leftie media drivel that the EDL is a "racist, anti-Muslim, far right-wing group."

In the spirit of openness, transparency and objectiveness, I ask you to read the EDL Mission Statement.

And just to whet you appetite, here is some of the "racist, anti-Muslim, far right-wing" hate speech they've been accused of; (Please read carefully and thoroughly)

(1) HUMAN RIGHTS: Protecting And Promoting Human Rights

The English Defence League (EDL) is a human rights organisation that was founded in the wake of the shocking actions of a small group of Muslim extremists who, at a homecoming parade in Luton, openly mocked the sacrifices of our service personnel without any fear of censure. Although these actions were certainly those of a minority, we believe that they reflect other forms of religiously-inspired intolerance and barbarity that are thriving amongst certain sections of the Muslim population in Britain: including, but not limited to, the denigration and oppression of women, the molestation of young children, the committing of so-called honour killings, homophobia, anti-Semitism and continued support for those responsible for terrorist atrocities.

Whilst we must always protect against the unjust assumption that all Muslims are complicit in or somehow responsible for these crimes, we must not be afraid to speak freely about these issues. This is why the EDL will continue to work to protect the inalienable rights of all people to protest against radical Islam’s encroachment into the lives of non-Muslims.

We also recognise that Muslims themselves are frequently the main victims of some Islamic traditions and practices. The Government should protect the individual human rights of British Muslims. It should ensure that they can openly criticise Islamic orthodoxy, challenge Islamic leaders without fear of retribution, receive full equality before the law (including equal rights for Muslim women) and leave Islam if they see fit, without fear of censure.

Can someone please cite to me anything here that is anti-Muslim?

If anything, the opposite is true. It call for freedom under the British legal system for ALL Muslims.

Golly gee... I wonder why the leftie media decides to purposefully ignore this "minor" tid-bit of information.
