2,200 appearantly boot wearing Marines are already off the Libyan coast.
Marines from Camp Lejeune's battle-hardened 26th Marine Expiditionary Unit are in position near Libya's Gulf of Sidra for offensive ground combat.
According to Marine Corps spokesman, Captain Timothy Patrick;
"In Libya right now they are doing exactly what we need them to do. They are doing what they are told and right now that's protecting Libyan people against Qadhafi forces."
A Marine Coprs pilot rescue team is know as a TRAP (Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel), and consists of one single platoon, 30-35 Marines (depending on the MOS).
2,200 Marines aren't needed to rescue one pilot.
2,200 are needed to cause death and destruction on a grand scale.
But didn't Obama say there wasn't going to be "boots on the ground"?
Maybe the 26th MEU will be issued camouflage flip-flops.
