Dems blame GOP for rise in unemployment - Stimulus Office shuts down

The Winston-Salem Journal quotes State Representative Joe Hackney, D-Orange as well as the N.C. House Minority Leader, as blaming the Republican majority for the recent bump in the state's unemployment rise to 10.5 percent.

"For four straight months, even as we have added private-sector jobs, unemployment in this state has grown faster than the national average," Hackney said.

"Republicans refuse to acknowledge the obvious — they are taking North Carolina backward and hurting families that are already struggling."

 Yet according to the North Carolina State Government News Service website;

The N.C. Office of Recovery and Investment shut down Sept. 30 after overseeing the spending of $19.4 billion in federal stimulus funds intended to boost the economy.

Many have opined that when the "stimulus money" runs out, so will most of the jobs they've created.

Case in point: Noted Economics Ph.D. and conservative political commentator John Lott penned an op/ed in Feb. 2009 entitled "Obama's Stimulus Package Will Increase Unemployment".
