"Several pictures are under investigation."
An active branch of the organisation hit the headlines in Carlisle last month when one of their members was jailed for publicly burning the Koran in the city centre.
"... he was protesting against Muslim extremists, and not Islam as a faith."
While in court, Heesley said Ryan has a military background which he is proud of, so images of extremist Muslim protesters burning poppies had made him want to take revenge.
In Great Britain and the British Commonwealth, poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Day, in which all servicemen who have died in combat are remembered and commemorated.
Hmmm... so it turns out that certain Islamists were making a political statement by burning the very symbol of British respect and reverence for fallen Warriors of the Empire.
Ryan makes his own political statement. No physical harm or threats of physical harm. He simply burned a rather small object in a public square.
Now he faces a criminal record. So much for his service to God, Queen and Country.
But I digress, I perused the News & Star article for some solid evidence that what the accused soldiers did was actually right-wing and anti-Islam.
I did find a few rather interesting sentences;
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman yesterday confirmed that an investigation was now underway, but suggested that some of the soldiers who appear in the photos may have been hoodwinked into posing next to the EDL flag.
“Individuals are free to join political parties but they’re not permitted to take an active role in political campaigning and must abide by our values and standards in all they do,” she told the News & Star.
“Instances of unacceptable behaviour in the armed forces are investigated, and appropriate action taken – up to and including dismissal.
“An investigation is already underway into allegations that individuals have breached army regulations through their involvement with the EDL.”
OK, a complaint was lodged, and an investigation is forthcoming. That's standard operating procedure. I've been investigated many times during my 20 fun filled, action packed years in my beloved Marine Corps.
And not once was there ever a guilty finding. Good thing there isn't guilt by accusation. But maybe there is in the British Army.
What I also find disturbing is the tenor of some of the Chicken Little hysterics the News & Star passes off as legitimate journalism.
As reporter Phil Coleman states;
The pictures – which have not yet been confirmed to be genuine – could help radicalise some Muslim, and inflame divisions between Islam and the West.
Hey Phil, I seriously doubt that these pictures would "radicalise" anyone. That's what they have Madrasahs for.
Oh, and that American, British, Canadian, Australian, etc, etc troops keep greasing al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorists/cowards.
Face it folks, Islamists don't need a reason to desire to slaughter innocent people... just an excuse.
