GA Dem Rep. David Scott loses his temper at a town hall meeting over healthcare

Rep. David Scott D-GA 13th District

When watching the main stream media coverage of the healthcare debate, an unassuming viewer might conclude that there are some extremely angry, perhaps even violent, opponents of the reform showing up all over the country at the town hall meetings to take down Barack Obama.

The viewer might also be told that they are set up by the Republican Party, and are either Nazis, KKK members or both.

Hardly anywhere is it mentioned that some of them might just be average Americans who are uncomfortable with government being in charge of their healthcare, or its increasing presence in American economy (healthcare is one seventh of US economy).

The main stream media is also not about to show a footage of a Georgia Rep. David Scott (D-GA) shouting at a man asking him a simple and legitimate question about healthcare reform (view the first video below to hear the question). Atlanta’s local 11Alive News Channel reporter Duffie Dixon reported on the meeting and didn’t shy away from exposing the politician (which is probably why the segment aired on a Friday evening).

The video footage shows how Congressman Scott, in a truly obnoxious and disrespectful way, accuses part of his audience of not even being constituents in his district (therefore he’s not required to answer to them,) and that they are trying to hijack his event. The interesting part is that Scott actually initially answered the question in a perfectly acceptable (if not a bit dismissive) way and even got some applause for it. He later added to it, and that’s when “all hell broke loose.”

In his rant, Rep. Scott yells that this is not a healthcare reform meeting – rightly so, the event was about transportation. Those in attendance, however, were told they could ask questions about anything they wanted during the q&a part of the meeting.

Furthermore, Rep. Scott points his finger at the audience and shouts: “not one single one of you had the decency to call my office and set up for a meeting. Do that! You wanna meeting with me on healthcare, I’ll give you one.”  But the man who asked the question, Dr. Brian E. Hill, a urologist in Douglas County, who is not a Republican, called Scott’s office on numerous occasions asking whether his representative is going to host any healthcare events. He was told ‘no’.

Later, 11Alive interviewed Dr. Hill: “"I did not go to a meeting to create any problems. I simply have real questions about the quality of health care my patients are going to get not just now, but down the line," Hill told Dixon in the interview. "We depend on our congressmen and congresswomen to really do what's right for us and represent our views. I just don't see that happening. We have a right to ask tough questions directly to them and have them answer them. That's how politics is supposed to work. They should answer to their constituents,"

Not surprisingly, Rep. Scott had no comment about the event.

Yes, he's a complete snob and extremely arrogant. He doesn't care about helping anybody. I was at an event with him, and anytime someone asked him something he didn't like he got visibly angry and verbally abusive. But if people vote them into offices because they're black and for no other reason, we end up with these kind of people. I'm more than happy to see more and more diversity on our political arena, but please, voting for someone just because of his race is just dumb. District 13 voters need to wake up. African-Americans need to wake up.

"Owning a business is a privilege" - he he, it takes a true mooching liberal to say that.

It most certainly IS a privilege to own and operate a business in this country. And it is also your privilege to operate that business where you see fit. Don't like the district....start up shop somewhere else. It is the government's OBLIGATION to tax and enforce taxation upon business. Don't like that? Take it up with the IRS.

Yes, it is a gift - to the country that some people are actually wiling to work hard to make something of themselves and own a business. Taxes are fine, high taxes are not, it is never right for hard working people to have to pay for those who'd rather watch their soap operas all day long - also known as liberals.

what a laugh- If this was George Bush that Doctor would be in Jail and lose his practice. And if it had been Cheny, the secret service would be visiting him.
Secondly, the doctor had a chance on CNN to say what he'd like in the bill. DIdn't say a thing. He demagogued it. He could have at east said HEALTHCARE needs to be portable., that you can't be dropped because of prior condition. The Doc said nothing. I don't believe he called Scott's office. Prove it

Jennifer -- your view on business ownership is quite disturbing. Business ownership is most certainly a right and not a privilege. It derives from the right to property. Included in this right is the right to use or dispense with this property as one sees fit. If I choose to grow corn on my land, I have the right to sell that corn to whomever I choose. All business is an extension of this principle. For you to lose sight of this worries me. Man does not exist for the sake of the government; government exist for the sake of man. Government was instituted to provide security for the possession or recovery of these rights. For you to say business ownership is a privilege is contrary to both the philosophical priniciples that gave rise to this country, but also to established law.

BLOWING OFF CONSTITUENTS IS HIS M.O. THIS GUY IS A CORRUPT SCUMBAG. Wikipedia says:

Since 1978, Scott has owned Dayn-Mark Advertising, which places billboards & other forms of advertising in the Atlanta area. Scott's wife, Alfredia, now heads the business. In May 2007, it was reported that the business owes more than $150,000 in back taxes & penalties. Scott's campaigns have paid the company more than $500,000 since 2002 for office rent, printing, T-shirts, & other services. He has also paid his wife, 2 daughters, & son-in-law tens of thousands of dollars for campaign work such as fund raising & canvassing. In 2007, Scott was named one of the 22 most corrupt members of Congress by the political watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics in Washington In addition to the above complaints Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics in Washington also brought into question David Scott's character after he called his Congressional opponent, Deborah Honeycutt, a 'bitch.'

Tony Powell, why would the doctor say those things if he didn't believe them? Just because you think Healthcare should be portable and people shouldn't be dropped because of prior condition doesn't mean he believes that. Are you this dense? On 11alive they said that the office received a lot of calls about a healthcare meeting, but at the time they didn't have anything scheduled. If you want to hire a private detective and track down all the calls to see if any of them were from the Doctor, I'm sure you can. And Obama already send out his people to report anyone who says "fishy" things about healthcare - at least Bush didn't encourage other citizens to "tell" on each other to the government. I thought BO was a strong liberal, but it goes beyond that, I guess he is a Communist, cause that's exactly what they do...

The DNC keep pitching avoidance and deception, and let's hope the fiscal conservatives can keep pitching the spririted, but real issues in this government attempt to takeover 1/6th of the US economy.
