Jumpsuits: A good trend for plus size women?

Jumpsuits and rompers are one of the major trends this summer and like most things fashion, it's one that's been here before.

Once seen primarily on pilots, mechanics and as play wear for children (rompers), jumpsuits came into the fashionable light in the late 1960's. Plunging V necklines, bell bottoms, wide legs and polyester characterized the jumpsuit as a fashion statement for that time. In the 80's there returned another resurgence of the jumpsuit before it faded away into fashion obscurity.

But the jumpsuit has made a comeback. Signs of this trends re-emergence began to surface over the past year as several Hollywood starlets worked the red carpet in these one piece blasts to the past. And this summer, whether you smile in joy or shudder in horror, the jumpsuit has made it's way back into popular culture and clothing stores.

The question for a lot of plus size women, however, is should they or even can they wear a jumpsuit. There are two answers for this. You should if you want to and you can if you find the right fit.

No one knows if you should wear a jumpsuit or romper but you. Your personal sense of style is one that can't be dictated by anyone other than you. Nor can your need for comfort be addressed by anyone else. Many women are turned off by wearing a one piece suit for no other reason than the hassle involved when nature calls. Removing a majority of ones outfit when answering that call is enough of a deterrent that some women refuse to even consider this look. For others the stylistic appeal of the jumpsuit is enough to overlook any minor inconvenience or discomforts.

As far as if you can wear a jumpsuit, it isn't fair to say that just because a woman is plus size that she automatically shouldn't wear one. That assumption just isn't true. Like any other garment, a woman must find a jumpsuit that fits her body and style no matter what her body size. The best way to determine whether or not a suit looks great on you is to try it on. The fabric and design of any given jumpsuit may look fabulous on one person and less than grand on another.

Wearing the right type of shoe is also a major factor when wearing this type of outfit. Flats are fine when wearing a romper (one piece short outfit) but they are definitely not the best choice for a jumpsuit. A pair of heels will give your body the length needed to pull off the sophistication and femininity that is needed when wearing this type of suit and to distinguish it from it's more utilitarian, work wear counterpart.

Body weight rarely is the deterrent that most will have you believe that it is when it comes to fashion. A thin woman with the wrong outfit for her shape can look just as devastatingly wrong as a plus size woman in the wrong outfit for her shape. Knowing your body, what looks good on it's particular shape and trying on clothing before you buy are the best ways to determine what trends such as this summers jumpsuit, do and don't work for you.

Jumpsuits FOREVER!! I am a huge jumpsuit advocate and hope its a trend that lasts and lasts and lasts. You are totally on point when you say that you need to find one to suit your shape. I wear a UK26 and there are some in my size that I look HAWT in (if I may say so myself) and some that make me look awful but I know they would work on someone with a different body shape. They rule.

I think its all a matter of confidence. If you think you look hot in it then work the look.
