Fatima Dosso, staff at Full Figured Fashion Week has a super sweet smile and an even sweeter personality. I loved her outfit because it speaks a lot to the state of plus size clothing and fashion.
Her entire outfit, vest, dress and necklace, came from New York & Company. Not known as a plus size retailer, NY & Co tops out at size 18. Even Lane Bryant, well known for being a plus retailer, starts at a 14, so there is some overlap. I think a majority of clothing stores should go up to at least a 20, that way a "majority of folks would be covered. If only they used a size 14 or 16 model every now and then. What a wonderful world that would be. However even if they considered a plus model, "plus size" modeling begins at a size 8, so chew on that for a moment.
I'm definitely a proponent for going into any store and looking for pieces that you like, enjoy and find beautiful. Mainly, find pieces that you feel beautiful in. My closet has pieces that don't have anything plus about them in their advertising, but carry a size that I fit.
I liked Dosso's outfit because it encompasses many types of style. The Maxi Dress is cute, sweet and playful. The grey vest she paired it with makes it a bit more edgy, gives the dress some structure and differentiates it from just another maxi dress. Also, the length of the vest is just right, if it was a longer vest, it probably would have just hung on her. Also, I can not tell you the importance of the "frosting on the cake", I love some chunky jewelry to cap off an outfit. Her look says "I'm comfortable, approachable, a bit edgy and beautiful" all without saying a word.
