Boots are all the rage lately. Women wear them with tights, leggings, skinny jeans tucked in, and trouser or boot cut jeans over them. They come in different heel heights, shaft heights, colors, materials and styles.

The first step in finding a pair of boots is determining your calf size. Most knee high boots have a 15-16” shaft. Measure your calf 15-16 inches up from the ground when you are standing flat and barefooted. If a boot you are interested in lists its shaft height, you can measure specifically for that boot as well.

Most “standard” (non-wide) boots fit a calf with a 15’ circumference. Wide calf boots come in a range from 17’ all the way up to 21’ in some brands.

Unfortunately, like wide width shoes, wide calf boots are almost impossible to find in a brick and mortar store. One store that does carry boots in store is Torrid. This store also offer the most cost effective option for boots. Due to the popularity of boots, there are several websites that offer wide calf boots. One quick option is to google “wide calf boots.”

Boots come in a variety of styles and shapes. Spend sometime browsing fashion websites to see how other women style their boots. Before making a purchase consider: what outfits you own that you will incorporate your boots into. Or, what pieces do you own, that you can create new outfits with, using the versatility of boots. How high of a heel do you want? Do you want to boots for work or for date night?

Boots can be quite pricey, about $60 -$300 depending on the quality and material of the shoe. Shoes are one area of fashion when quality matters. There is a time and place for the cheap, novelty shoe that you are going to wear once or twice with one outfit, but for shoes that are a neutral color that are going to become a staple of your wardrobe, it’s often worth it to spend a few more dollars to get a good quality, comfortable product.
