Fat grafting is a great way to sculpt areas of your body

In plastic surgery, fat grafting has received a lot of attention recently.  It is an intense area of research, and a lot of money and time has been spent trying to figure out what happens to the fat once it's is injected.  Fat cells may take on the role of stem cells and become part of whatever tissue they're injected into.  However, this has not been entirely proven, and more research needs to be done.  For the body, fat is great for sculpting areas of the body that need volume.  This includes the breasts for breast augmenation, the face for filling in the lines of the face during a facelift, areas that have been liposuctioned, and the hands.  The fat is harvested with liposuction and then re-injected into the areas of need.  Approximately 30% of the fat will last for years, but more may stick around.  Fat is your own cells, so there is very little chance for rejection.  Talk with your plastic surgeon to determine if you're a good candidate for fat grafting.
