Everything you ever wanted to know about hair transplants - The Procedure

When you've made your choice of who you want to perform you hair transplant, it's time for the procedure.  Anesthesia for a hair transplant can be done under local anesthesia where you don't go to sleep or with a little sedation.  Once you're settled, a narrow strip of skin is removed from the back of your scalp.  This is then sutured closed and the strip of hair is dissected out underneath a microscope.  While this is being done, the hair transplant surgeon, will create your new hairline with you.  Then, your scalp will be infiltrated with local anesthesia and many tiny incisions will be made for the grafts.  Following this, the hair transplant team will place each hair, one-by-one.  It is tedious and time consuming, but the results are almost completely inconspicuous.  A long hair transplant, around 2,000-2,500 grafts, may take from 9am to 4pm.  Once the procedure is over, your hair transplant surgeon will review the post-operative instructions with you.  I'll review the entire recovery process on the next article to follow.
