Dr. Marisa Lawrence, Atlanta plastic surgeon, is pleased to announce she will be offering advanced laser and pulsed-light treatments out of her Atlanta office. If you live with unwanted facial or body hair, stretch marks, sun spots, age spots, facial veins, leg veins, or acne, you may be surprised to find that these conditions can all be treated with safe and effective laser and light-based technology.
“Most people are familiar with laser hair removal or some other form of light-based hair reduction,” says Dr. Lawrence. “But few know how versatile and comfortable light-based treatments have become. We’re at the point where one system can treat unwanted hair, sunspots, spider veins, acne, leg veins, stretch marks, rosacea, and more. It’s a tremendous advantage to both doctor and patient to treat all of these conditions without having to use multiple systems or refer the patient to another practitioner.”
Palomar Medical states that "ongoing clinical studies have shown that subjects treated with the Lux 1540 achieved an average improvement of between 51% AND 75% in the appearance of their striae, based upon a blinded review of photographs comparing the pre-treatment appearance of striae versus the results three months post-treatment," "...this is the first laser treatment for stretch marks that truly works."
During treatments, filtered light is directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin in hair or pigmented lesions, and hemoglobin in the blood in visible vessels. For permanent hair reduction, the light effectively disables the hair follicles. For sun spots or age spots, the cells containing the unwanted pigment are targeted. In the case of vessels, the light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the veins, causing them to shrink and fade from view.
“We also offer comprehensive photofacials, treating each layer of the skin with specific technologies,” says Dr. Lawrence. “Our skin rejuvenation system makes for safe and effective treatments; most patients describe the light pulses as a slight ‘snapping’ sensation, which causes mild discomfort at most. After the treatment, there may be some redness for a few days, but that quickly fades and the patient can enjoy clearer skin.”
