Pitt junior second baseman Chris Sedon was named to the Big East Conference first team during the conference tournament this week. Sedon is the sixteenth Panther to earn the title and the first since the 2006 season when Jim Negrych made the first team.

"I feel privileged to have been named to the first team," Sedon said. "It's an honor I'll always remember."

He turned in one of the best seasons by a Pitt player, ranking among the top-five in six offensive categories; slugging percentage (.788, 4th), hits (78, 2nd), runs scored (62, 3rd), home runs (20, 2nd), RBI (58, 5th) and total bases (152, 2nd).

Sedon started 47 games and ranks in the top 10 of several major offensive categories, including: batting average, (.404), home runs (22), stolen bases (19) and slugging percentage (.788).

"I'd like to thank all the guys on the team for all the hard work they put in throughout the season," Sedon said. "Without them, I would not have been able to do what I did."

He started the season with an eight-game hitting streak and added two separate nine-game streaks. He earned Big East weekly honors four times this season.

"Our conference is filled with great players," Sedon said. "To be chosen as a member of the first team by the coaches is awesome."

In the final conference series of the regular season, Sedon posted a 1.444 slugging percentage, batted .444 (4-for-9), hit three home runs, including two in game one and seven RBI over the two-game span. During the Big East Conference tournament, Sedon hit two home runs and had four rbi's.

Sedon was a transfer from Lackawanna College and before his sophomore year, he was selected as a pre-season All-American and Region XIX first team member.

"I’d like to thank the coaches here," Sedon said. "They brought me in and gave me a shot."

In his freshman year he was the Region XIX Tournament MVP. In the summer of 2008 he was a member of the Kutztown Rockies, the 2008 ACBL Champions. He earned MVP of the 2008 ACBL All-Star Game and was awarded ACBL MVP of the year in 2008 with a .346 hitting average and a .546 slugging average.

He was born on November 6, 1987 and is the son of John Sedon III and Ann Marie Sedon. He has two brothers, John and Jeff. He is an administration of justice major at Pitt.
