It is not as if Rep. Gabrielle Giffords didn't already have enough problems after voting for Obamacare.  Now she is also accused as one of the U.S. Senators who went to Copenhagen at the taxpayers expense.

It was reported by AzBiz on January 25, 2010 that she and her astronaut husband, Mark Kelly took the taxpayer-funded trip to the climate change summit.

Added to that, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords may have made a major mistake when voting for Obamacare. She might have had second thoughts before Scott Brown in Massachusetts was elected to the U.S. Senate however now she is tarred with being under House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's thumb.

Gifford's did write a letter to Pelosi on Jan. 13, saying that she was worried that Arizona could not afford the estimated 2000 new Medicaid enrollees that the Senate measure would mandate. Her concern was that Arizona would have to foot the nearly $4 billion expense of adding citizens to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. Nevertheless, she had voted for it, along with the four other Democrats in the House.

Now Republicans  in the 8th Congressional District are lining up against her including State Sen. Jonathan Paton, Andy Goss, Jesse Kelly and Brian Miller, who will compete in the primary that will take place on August 24, 2010.

Gifford put out a preemptive statement when Paton ended speculation when he announced his candidacy, saying that she would welcome discussing the nation's most important issues with whoever the Republican nominee.

Rep. Gifford has good reason to anticipate stiff Republican opposition as she prepares to run for re-election.  Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. carried the Tucson-based district during the presidential election of 2008.

The Arizona's 8th Congressional District includes all of Cochise County, and parts of Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz counties. It is considered a swing district.
