The Green Team at Craven Community College hosted a Green Fair on Thursday. Exhibitors included government organizations, private groups and businesses with a message to all:

Green is beautiful...and saves money. From more efficient heating and cooling to using recycling to make sure the landfills last longer, the message was clear. Save money and the environment and here are ways to do it.

Batteries Plus is new to New Bern, but has stores all over the country and accepts all batteries for recycling. It doesn't matter where you buy them, they will recycle them. Keeping batteries, with their toxic chemicals and metals out of the landfill is not only being green, it is safer. They also have the right battery for your needs, meaning you don't have to drive all over looking for the right battery. Save gas, save money, save the environment.

Bobbi Waters from the regional landfill was on hand to explain the workings of the landfill and how the waste from Craven, Pamlico and Carterett counties is sorted, processed and properly disposed of. There is an in depth article with video on http://greencraven.org about how the landfill operates.

Green Craven was on hand to make people aware of the one stop service it provides, information, links, articles and a way to ask questions about being green in Craven County. Go to http://greencraven.org to see articles, ideas and videos on aspects of being green.

There were a number of others at the fair, featured in the video and the photogallery. Take a few moments to find out more about this important community event by viewing them.

All participants came together through the efforts of the Craven Community College Green Team. Their goal: Educate and assist all area residents and businesses in their efforts to be a bit greener and keep our area a great place to live.
