Everything has just about gone totally digital these days from texting to emailing to websites like facebook and twitter. Most people have forgotten about holiday traditions such as mailing out cards. So, this year I've compiled a list of my top three trendy holiday gift ideas as an alternative to the outdated Christmas card. The first step is have a professional photo taken, do not use a facebook type photo Yes, I know in a perfect world we'd look fabulous every time our friends digital camera clicked. Unfortunately, we all can't be that talented.
The first step is picking out a photographer to take a good quality professional photo. A talented photographer knows just when to wait for the right moment to capture you at your best. Lighting is very important, natural light is the most flattering and many photographers today work on location and can even come to you. Winter in San Francisco is a perfect time for an outdoor shoot. Keep clothing simply and stay away from busy patterns and loud colors. Once you have achieved the perfect picture you can decide what gift you'd like to choose.
My top three picks of the year:
1. A creative photo card. There are quite a few online companies that offer beautifully designed holiday cards. Two of my favorites are Minted and tinyprints. Both of these companies allow you to upload your photo, pick a design and sit back and wait for your lovely cards to arrive. If you don't have time to Christmas cards consider a happy new card. It’s fun, festive and avoids the political correctness issue entirely.
2. Another neat idea is a photo book or calendar. This is a perfect way for you share all your memories of the past years with friends and family. Online companies like blurb and inkubook have made this as easy and 123. Try including a mixture of candid shots with family stories and favorite recipes. These make for wonderful gifts that will be treasured for years to come.
3. Turn a photo into artwork. I recently discovered a company called All pop art. They take your photo and turn it into a unique piece of wall art, my favorite is the Warhol style. This the perfect gift for anyone who loves to decorate their homes with photographs!
Well, those are my top picks for photography gifts this year, feel free to let me know what you think or add any suggestions to the list.
Happy Holidays!
