If you have ever wanted the opportunity to spend a weekend in the Napa Valley to shoot photographs, there is a photography workshop on the 17th and 18th of April you should know about. It is the second annual Napa Valley Landscape and Winery Portrait Portfolio Workshop hosted by Mark Behren’s Look Photographic Workshops.
It’s a two-day workshop, and you can choose to do both days, or either day depending on your particular interest in photography. Saturday the 17th will focus on landscape photography, and Sunday the 18th will cover the human subject in a scenic environment. If you book both days, you get a special pricing package, although it is not officially posted on LookPW.com as of this writing.
The landscape portion of the workshop will have you up before the crack of dawn to take advantage of the “magic” time when natural light is at its best. Landscape photographer, Brian Reub, will be on hand to provide instruction and guide the group around some of Napa Valley’s most gorgeous views. The workshop also includes visits to some of the region’s popular wineries where you can witness, and photograph, the creation and aging process of some of the world’s famous wines.
The following day is the portrait workshop, and you will spend the day at the Behrens Family Winery on top of Spring Mountain in St. Helena. This workshop is dedicated to portrait photography and building your portfolio, while photographing many different models in a location loaded with opportunities to capture amazing photographs. Just like any of the LookPW.com workshops, the models will be well prepped by some of Northern California’s most talented hair and makeup artists and fashion designers.
For a few photo examples of last years workshops, please be sure to check out the slide show at the bottom of the article.
According to Marc Behrens, this particular workshop is his most popular. If it is anything like last year, it will most certainly be a good experience for all who attend this year. For more details, you can visit his website at: LookPW.com. Workshop-goers can get a special rate at the Ink House Bed and Breakfast while vacancy lasts, should they decide to spend the night in the area. You can contact Rachel for details here.
Writer's Note: I was unable to attend the Landscape workshop last year, but I did hear lots of positive feedback about the experience when I attended the Portrait workshop the following day. My experience was a lot of fun, and I feel I walked away from the event with photos that I wouldn’t easily be able to capture with a do-it-yourself type of approach. It was a great opportunity to work and learn alongside fellow photo enthusiasts and models, and everyone is willing to work together in a helpful manner.
