Residue of Desire and Blue Wave White Wave Tube - Sade Huron at Diving Swallow Tattoo and KALA

On permanent exhibit at Diving Swallow Tattoo in Oakland are a series of 30" x 40" c-prints of freeze-frame video stills, part of a larger work called Residue of Desire. The artist, Sade Huron, made the prints as part of a two-month long residency at the parlor. Huron says of the work that it: "looks at the rhythm and cadence of the tattoo process."

Some of these, the most interesting of them, extend their references well beyond the specific subject matter of tattooing. Many are very abstract, shot close in and motion-blurred. Some suggest landscape, others resemble scanning electron microscopy.

Huron also has work from this series on view in the faculty exhibit at KALA Art Institute in Berkeley under the title Blue wave, White wave, Tube. That exhibit, titled obviously enough On View: New Work from KALA is up through the 27th February.
