What is religion?

To define, according to its Classical root, means to de-limit, for which is necessary to set up some limitations around that portion we are about to express.  I have been studying religions and philosophy all my life and, still I do have questions.  Yet, I can simply state I am very much willing to lay down the base of a definition with the purpose of better picturing how fragile and conspicuous the human nature is.  I say, and have no doubts about it, Religion is the most powerful analgesic drug, whose continuous use passes the blood-brain barrier leading to hallucinations, a lack of the sense of reality, delusions, false convictions, and the odd effect of incapacitating any common sense.  Religion can be natural o synthetic; when it is natural is called ''organized religion''' and when is synthetic is called '''fundamentalism'''.  Natural religion is a sub-type which being not so damaging as its synthetic counterpart, still produces lethargy and episodes of delusions and over-valued ideas.  Synthetic religion, better known as ''fundamentalism''', is by all means the most dangerous form of this drug, which has produced and still produces millions of fatal cases, endorsed wars and hatred among human beings, and disguised itself under the clad of a god or creed which is merely an hallucination product of a continued use.

This definition is not meant to be a joke, on the contrary I believe it describes to the purpose what religion actually is and has always been: a clash of diseased sentiments.  We are keen to obliterate our prejudices, and believe we live in an immaculate world wherein God has chosen ''us'' for a further mission.  Perhaps, we are just dreaming, or pretending to dream in order to hide our fears.  We fear reality as much as we fear our own selves.

It is not appropriate to look into the Middle East to find fundamentalism when we do have it right here in American soil: Christian Fundamentalism.  A large army of demented robots walk amidst the crowd, yelling and shouting in universities' campuses, condemning gay marriage, evolution, abortion, and even women liberation and the right to be feminine, and all of this in the 'name of God'.  We have nurtured a New Inquisition within a free country: free but not foolish.

Liberty is not the same as to be libertine, and freedom is not equal to be inconsiderate.  When I write this article I take I am using my freedom of speech, but when I post a sign in front of my house saying "all gays are going to hell'' or ''Keep guns--will vote'' I am being a rude person one step away from Nazism--and that my friends, is not freedom of speech.

America shall never be free until she strives for a better educational program, a program where uncredited universities and uncredited schools have absolutely no room at all in our society, furthermore: they must become illegal.  If heroin is illegal because it produces ill consequences, why is it not illegal an university like Bob Jones which is against interracial marriage, women rights to choose, women femininity, the use of medication in cases of depression, and which even deny the right of a human being to be who he/she is sexually oriented?  I can't understand how this isn't more or equally dangerous as the use of crack.

Thousands of children are being brainwashed in this country on a daily basis in non-accredited schools where they teach man was created to be superior to woman, and where they teach gay people are destined to hell, also where they teach when a woman uses a bikini she is offending God, or also that black person is black because God cursed his/her race during Babel.

I repeat my question: how can anyone believe that type of thinking is not as damaging as the use of heroin or of crack?  Nonetheless, our Senate is full of ''educated'' fellows that still believe Noah's Ark has been found in Turkey!  If we don't desire an unstable policeman in the streets, why are we supporting unstable politicians who can potentially run this country?  Thinking in terms as the Inquisition used to think hundreds of years ago very well qualifies for instability.

I say, Christian Fundamentalism is the New Inquisition, the New Witch Hunters, and the problem is not their existence, the problem is our ignoring them.  Ignoring a problem doesn't make it disappear, on the contrary makes it more evident to our shame.

There is only one way to God, only one way, no other, and that is through LOVE, and there is no love where there is no tolerance, and there is no tolerance where there isn’t understanding.
