Philippines: 11-year-old girl gives birth in Iloilo

The Philippine government said Monday that an 11-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy Sunday at a hospital in Iloilo province.

According to government officials, the girl, who was seven months pregnant, was initially brought to a provincial hospital in Roxas City, Capiz province Saturday where she was in critical condition. She was later transferred to a hospital in Iloilo where she gave birth to the premature boy yesterday.

There are no details on the condition of the mother or baby at this time.

It was not immediately known who is the father.

The youngest girl to give birth in the Philippines was a 10-year-old girl who gave birth to a baby boy at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center in Cotabato City, Philippines on August 19, 2010

According to numerous reports, the youngest confirmed mother in medical history was Peruvian girl, Lina Medina. Born September 27, 1933, Lina gave birth to a baby boy at the age of five years, seven months and 17 days on May 14, 1939.
