Over the past few months, our city has begun to be recognized as and described by a new, strange adjective not typically associated with our fair town ... fashionable!
It's no secret -- September is one of the busiest months of the year for D.C's nonprofit community. So many places to go, so many causes to support! So in true Washington form, we marry this newfound and sorely needed fashion forwardness with a variety of fun events and great causes. The upcoming month is full of hot happenings -- here are our picks:
'Fashion Fights Poverty (FFP) is one the largest ethical fashion nonprofit organizations in the United States. Honoring national and international designers who employ ethical practices in their design and manufacturing processes to produce products that promote economic development of a given community, FFP provides a forum for dialogue and awareness-building about how fashion, textiles, and design can alleviate poverty and empower communities.'
Two big events this month for the original philanthropic trendsetter, celebrating its 5th birthday:
Retrospective: The launch of the FFP Lookbook
September 16, 2009 7pm-10pm at L2 in Georgetown, Hosted by Kate Michael.
rsvp@fashionfightspoverty.org
Refashion: Fashion presentation and the climax of the organization's Dress Responsibly Campaign

Benefiting Rachael's Women's Center, a daytime shelter for homeless women located in the downtown area of Washington, D.C. Rachael’s is one of only two day shelters in the District exclusively for women.
The DSS brings together some of D.C.'s haute(est!) designers and boutiques for a fantastic day of shopping and an even more fantastic and famous gift bag!

YouthAIDS is well known for having some of the most amazing, well attended, and downright fun events in the city -- this new event takes them out of downtown and into Tyson's Galleria for a day full of runway style. Imagine the excitement and energy of New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park at Tyson's Galleria! This three-day fashion and trend event will feature fashion industry icons as well as expert panels, receptions, and runway presentations.

Clinton Portis and Eric Finn Custom Clothiers are the hosts of this modern fundraiser benefiting local nonprofit Becky's Fund.
Becky's Fund (profiled earlier this year) provides impactful, hands-on necessary support and education for and about domestic violence.
This event promises to be a true "see and be seen" -- expect Washington's social set out in full force along with cocktails, delicious food and an over-the-pool runway show showcasing the impeccable custom clothes of Eric Finn.
