Back in February, I wrote about Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mead and her greyhounds, Opal and Rider. They were injured in a vehicle accident back in October, and the vet bills for the dogs' care rose to $14,000.
Local dog lovers and friends of Lizzie came together to raise money to help pay the vet bills. And earlier this month, they were able to pay off the bills in full.
In addition, about $1,000 was used to rescue two greyhounds from Guam. Many greyhounds have been at risk since the track there closed, and nearly 100 have been brought to the US so far.
Nearly 200 handmade beaded bracelets were sold as part of the fundraising effort. Proceeds from the next 40 bracelets sold will be donated to the Greyhound Rescue League, the rescue group where Lizzie adopted her greyhounds.
