The Illinois State Fair going on in Springfield, IL this week is known for a lot of things: great food, outstanding entertainment, thrilling rides, and unsurpassed people watching opportunities. But this year you may actually find your new best friend waiting for you right there.
“Adopt Your Next Best Friend” is being featured in Conservation World; which is already a hidden treasure at the fair for family entertainment. Local animal shelters and rescue groups throughout the central IL area (almost to MO) will be on hand with some of the pets available for adoption.
Although regulations prevent the transfer of animals onsite, your application will be processed in the fastest most convenient way possible, especially for those out of town visitors. Some of the groups that will be represented included:
- Sangamon County Animal Control
- Animal Protective League of Springfield and Sangamon County
- Adopt a Pet of Benld (between Spfld, IL and St. Louis)
- Canine Solutions (Labrador retrievers)
- Pets Without Parents
- Mason County IL
- Forever Home Feline Ranch of Springfield, IL
- Homeward Bound of Decatur, IL
- Irish setter Rescue
- Illinois Humane
- One of the most interesting groups and worthwhile groups is Save-A-Vet, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that provide sanctuary to what are deemed unadoptable military dogs. They will only be there Aug 20-22. I have written before about the heroism of these dogs in the military. Nero, a military dog injured in the line of duty will be on hand to welcome visitors.
Low costs spay and neuter information will be available as well as many other low cost health tips and information.
The Event is hosted by Illinois Humane and will be open from 10am to 7pm daily. Don’t miss this opportunity to get out and meet some of the great people that make such a difference in the lives of local animals. Who knows? Your best friend may be sitting there waiting for you.
