Indiana dogfighting rings raided-$5,000 reward offered by HSUS

Two more dogfighting rings were raided in Indiana last week, with one man arrested and over 90 dogs rescued. The Indiana Gaming Commission and the Indiana State Police headed up the raids; with the HSUS task force being asked to assist.  One of the owners of the properties raided had not been located at the time of the raids. The dogs are being treated and evaluated for placement. Purdue University vets helped with this process.

The HSUS offers up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in dogfighting or cockfighting. The HSUS’ animal fighting reward program has been made possible thanks to a grant by the Holland M. Ware Charitable Foundation, which is based in Atlanta.

I am hoping that the promise of a reward encourages the tips to keep coming in. This is a horrendous crime, with more than 250,000 dogs fighting each year. This is an inexcusable and morally bankrupt activity, with victims that cannot speak for themselves.

If you have information about illegal animal fighting, you are eligible for this reward. Here are the steps to take.
1. Call your local police department or animal control agency. Give them as many details as you can about the suspected animal fighting situation.

You do not need to give your name to law enforcement to report illegal animal fighting.

Tell the law enforcement agency about The HSUS's reward program.
2. Get a letter from law enforcement. If the suspected animal fighter is convicted, ask the law enforcement agency involved in the case to write a letter to The HSUS.

The letter should state that your tip helped lead to the arrest and prosecution of the convicted animal fighter. The letter should be mailed or faxed to:

3. Call The HSUS for more information. If you have questions about the reward program, please call us at 202-452-1100 or go humanesociety.org

As I have pointed out many times, many people that can do this type of activity are also involved in other violent crimes. Makes perfect sense.

A Chicago Police Department study showed that 65 percent of people charged with animal abuse crimes—including dogfighting—were also charged with violent crimes against people. 8-18-09

These dogs often just have a chain around their neck and mud to live in.  They have no social interaction except for fighting.  Dogs crave social interaction and go in circles on their chain trying to escape.  Once they aren't wanted for breeding or fighting they are just left to die, or killed hideously as more "sport" for their human captors. Indescribable cruelty.  That is their life.

Again, be part of the solution.   Report animal abuse and neglect.  Thanks for reading.  keepsake16@yahoo.com
