Rabbit Fever is the brainchild of Amy Do, a self-proclaimed rabbit lover who has documented over 150 hours of footage in the rabbit show circuit.  And although she hasn't shown rabbits herself, she notes, “After I attended my first local rabbit show in Pomona, CA, I knew it was an experience that I had to tell people about. Film just happened to be the easiest medium to do that.”

Do points out that many people are familiar with dog and horse shows, but she questions how many are aware of the distinct experience of a rabbit show?  Rabbit Fever brings you behind the scenes into the unique world of a rabbit show through the people, specifically the youth, who compete.  In her own words, Do explains,  "Although the intense competition drives the film forward to its climax, the heart of Rabbit Fever lies within the passion, charm and sometimes quirkiness of its subjects. You can replace the teens’ love of rabbits with any other hobby or sport, and empathize with their motivation and goals. It’s just another vehicle that young adults use to challenge and express themselves, making Rabbit Fever not only a film about rabbits, but also a very unique coming-of-age story.”

It is a story that Amy Do is singularly qualified to tell as she is not new to film; in fact, she has worked on the behind-the-scenes documentaries for Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith at Lucasfilm Ltd. in Northern California and at a division of FOX Interactive Media, producing videogame-related features for IGN Entertainment (www.ign.com). Rabbit Fever, however, is Amy’s first feature-length film, a huge undertaking for which she sacrificed buying a home to complete.

"I admired how much passion and drive [these people] had, especially for a hobby that not a lot of outsiders would understand. What really interested me the most was the teenage members – how most kids their age would probably be hanging out at the mall, watching movies or playing video games, but instead, these teens were using their free time to study rabbits! What was behind all of this hard work? That’s where I finally found my story – how, who and what was this title of National Rabbit King and Queen that these kids were striving for so diligently?”

And Amy Do herself has strived dilligently to bring her own hard work to fruition in her film.  Her passion for her subject matter, impressive connections, and professional knowledge of filming is evident even in her newly-released trailer, which will surely open new doors to this little-known world for many who have never been inside.
