What is a feral cat? A feral cat is one who lives outdoors and is not socialized to human contact; therefore are afraid of people. Feral cats live everywhere, in the country, urban and suburban locations.
Unfortunately many people abandon their pet cats by turning them loose to fend for themselves. Many of these cats are not spayed or neutered and thus a feral cat society is formed.
In 1990, Becky Robinson realized that there was no national organization dedicated to providing education and resources for the thousands of people who were caring for feral cats. As a result she co-founded the Alley Cat Allies, the only advocacy organization for feral cats. Alley Cat Allies is dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of feral cats.
Alley Cat Allies works with animal control agencies, shelters, veterinarians, communities and local governments to establish trap, neuter and return programs where feral cats are trapped, vetted and returned to their outdoor home.
Alley Cat Allies has an extensive outreach program and maintains the Feral Friends Network (FFN), a group of over 1800 caregivers.
