Reduce your pet's "paw prints" and help save the planet that we all share! Here are five easy ways to go green with your dog:
1. Make healthy pet treats and store them in labeled, reusable, recyclable containers. Don't feel like baking? Try Chef Shelley's fresh, homemade all-natural dog treats, made with nutritious ingredients, such as wheat-free gluten-free flour, honey, pumpkin, yogurt, peanut butter, fresh herbs and dried fruits. Her canine confections do not contain preservatives, additives, chemicals and artificial flavors, nor do they have a high fat and sugar content found in some commercial treats.
Serving South Florida communities in Palm Beach and Broward counties, Chef Shelley can be contacted at 561-276-8539 or email: Shelley@ShortOnThyme.com.
2. Recycle dog food containers, including glass and aluminum cans. Recycling creates new products. For example, recycled glass is made into new beverage bottles, food jars, insulation and other construction materials.
3. Wash dog clothes by hand in cold water, and hang outside to dry. This will save energy and money.
4. Use natural dog grooming products that are free of chemicals that can be harmful to dogs and the environment. One of the easiest ways to avoid chemicals in commercial pet products is to create natural ones made with common household ingredients. Here is a recipe for an after bath rinse: Mix one tablespoon white vinegar with one pint warm water and rub through dog's fur. Rinse again with plain water. This natural rinse with help remove shampoo residue and prevent dandruff.
5. Pick up after Fido using biodegradable wag bags. If finding time to keep up with all the waste is a problem, call the Pet Butler of Boca Raton. This company, which is part of a national franchise, provides pet waste cleanup and removal. They scoop anytime you need it and serve homes and communities. Rates are reasonable and there is no long term contract. Call 800-Pet-Butler (738-2885).

Lexie-lu is barking about Chef Shelly's muttloaf and peanut butter crunch balls for dinner! Thanks JoJo for another lovely article : )
Great article and great tips, Jo Jo. It's so important to remember that our pets are affected by chemicals (food, cleaning, pesticides) and preservatives more than we realize. I just read your article to Rusty and now he's wondering when I will get around to making him some dog treats :)
