Peter Facinelli draws in 2,000 fans to Harrisburg Mall

Peter Facinelli made his way to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania this weekend to sign autographs, take photos, and talk with his fans - all in the good name of charity. The beneficiary? Alex's Lemonade, a philanthrophy that actively promotes the search for the cure to childhood cancer.

According to one report, over 2,000 fans made their way to Harrisburg Mall for the occasion.

Prior to the signing, Facinelli spoke with PennLive about the appearance and discussed why it is that he enjoys making appearances such as these, and he also revealed the animus and inspiration behind his recent association and undying promotion of Alex's Lemonade (the latest of Facinelli's many charitable endeavors).

According to that interview, Facinelli's biggest win with regard to mall appearances is getting the chance to talk with his fans and introduce them to philanthropic causes. Said he, "I enjoy interacting with the fans, and I enjoy being able to spread the names of charities around. It's my way of giving back. If a small number of people see me and take an interest in a charity, I've made a difference in the world. It's very easy when you are doing well to just take. I feel good being able to give back."

Of course, Facinelli's fans will know how many various charities Facinelli has helped since becoming a part of the Twilight series. Alongside Alex's Lemonade, Facinelli has been active with Omnipeace, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, and Surfrider, to name a few.

About why he is now working so heavily with Alex's Lemonade, Facinelli said, "I read the story and thought it was heartbreaking. This family had a girl diagnosed with cancer and she would go out to do lemonade stands to raise money for a cure for cancer. Her parents, to their credit, did this nationwide where kids can get kits and set up lemonade stands. So it's children helping children. As a kid, I always liked doing lemonade stands. What a great way to have fun and do some good."

UPDATE: Peter Facinelli recently announced to his fans that $10,000 was raised for Alex's Lemonade at this event.

Of all the twilight stars Peter is by far the most upstanding and approachable actor in the lot. I haven't heard of any other actor, and I've been online, that have used their stardom for the benefit of others as much as Peter has. A damn sexy man- Jenny you are sooooo lucky and an italian to boot - ain't no myth about Italian men - I know I married one. Have any of you seen him in Scorpion King - HELLO !!! He's excellent in his role on twilight. He seeks no papparazzi and yet he's out there being very approachable and loved by many many fans. Maybe some of his coworkers- and you know who your are - could use some time with him to learn a thing or 2.

Peter is such a nice guy. I went to the mall and waited in line for 6 and a half hours. He stayed there for 2 hours more than he was scheduled to. He was very generous and kind to me- the picture turned out great!
