White Plains, NY – Arden Moore really does know pets. The internationally recognized pet authority captured four top awards at the 16th Annual Cat Writers Association’s annual conference held here Friday and Saturday.
In a competitive contest that drew 497 entries from all over the world and cash prizes totaling $13,000, Moore demonstrated her diversity by winning awards as an editor, writer and photographer.
“Each year, the CWA showcases the best in the field of pet journalists,” said Moore, a bestselling author, editor, writer and radio show host from Oceanside, Calif. “The real winners are cats and their owners who benefit from dedicated journalists whose strive to communicate the latest in feline health, medicine, nutrition, behavior and training.”
For the sixth straight year, Moore’s role as editor for Catnip, a national monthly publication affiliated with Tufts University’s School of Veterinary Medicine, was named top newsletter. Moore also tied for top honors in the newsletter column and earned first place in the black-and-white photo category.
“That’s a real surprise,” said Moore. “The winning photo depicted three kittens inside an adoption cage racing for kibble in a bowl. I managed to get their eager pursuit with my camera.”
In addition, Moore’s two-part series, entitled, “The Lowdown on Litter Box Issues,” won the Tidy Catsâ Feline Behavior Award, sponsored by Purina. Moore is the national pet trainer columnist for this online site.
Drew Weigner, DVM, a veterinarian with a feline-only practice in Atlanta and pat president of the Academy of Feline Practitioners, selected Moore’s entry and commented:
“Every year, the bar is raised higher and higher. Most entries were excellent, but this one is the best of the best. Demonstrating both compassion and humor when appropriate, the author combines wit and skill with an engaging style. I wish I could write like that.”
This award consists of $500 and a commemorative pewter bowl.
Moore was also a finalist in seven other categories, including radio podcast, online article and newspaper column.
