The Humane Society of Naples, FL will be tossing all of the outdated concepts associated with animal shelters, including the cages and dog runs, and replacing them with a new hi-tech design. The modern architecture is part of a new philosophy to make life easier for homeless pets.
The new animal shelter which will cost $3.6 million was put together with private donations. It is expected to house 80-100 cats and 30-40 dogs when it is completed in early 2010.
The spa like facility will utilize a modern concept of large, relaxing rooms for the animals. Up to four dogs will share a suite to create a more social environment. This method replaces the old standard chained-link dog runs that isolated canines and promoted stress. The cat room will hold up to eight felines and include a screened patio so they can enjoy the sunshine.
Last year the Humane Society of Naples had a record-breaking year by adopting 1,466 orphaned animals. In these difficult economic times that are taking a toll on homeless pets and the welfare groups that help them, it’s nice to hear good news like this.
