Compassionate Hearts Animal Rescue is a nonprofit group dedicated to the rescue, preservation and adoption of cats and dogs. Their mission is to find forever homes for stray, abandoned and homeless cats and dogs through a compassionate volunteer adoption program.
Known as 'Char of PA ', this rescue group of volunteer foster homes goes out of their way to give second chances to cats and dogs in the Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg area. They provide vet care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and micro-chipping for all their rescues before adopting them out to their forever homes.
Along with their weekly Saturday adoption events (usually held at Petsmart on Carlisle Pike), Char of PA will also sometimes host inexpensive vaccination clinics for the public. They also have a 'permanent' location for some of the cats at the Petco on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg.
If you have been considering adopting a cat or dog you should check out Compassionate Hearts Animal Rescue for a selection from kittens to cats and puppies to dogs. You can also save time by filling out your adoption application ahead of time and be pre-approved when coming to an adoption event.
If you are unsure if a new pet will fit into your home, you can become a foster through Char of PA and get a feel for how your family and any current pets will adapt to the newcomer before committing to a permanent adoption. As with any reputable rescue, Char of PA insists on all animals being returned to them if, for what ever reason, they do not work out in their new homes.
Please consider helping out this small, but worthy Central PA rescue.
