Stray Aid & Rescue, Inc. is a Florida non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer, rescue organisation. They have one overriding mission, and that is to stop pet overpopulation.

They are accomplishing this by:

  1. Providing affordable, high volume, quality care spay/neuter services to pet owners, as well as rescue groups and individuals caring for strays and feral cat colonies
  2. Promoting adoption of pets from shelters and rescue groups
  3. Educating the community about responsible pet ownership

Stray Aid was started in May 2003 by Diane Fraser, who has worked tirelessly to make this organisation a success.

This group has gone from averaging 250-300 surgeries per year to 3, 044 last year. That's just over 250 spay/neuter surgeries per month! Approximately 50% of those surgeries were performed on feral cats and kittens.

Why the huge increase? They now have their own spay/neuter clinic. This means they can sterilize as many animals as possible, without waiting for appointment times or space availability at other clinics. They are now beginning their second year in the clinic.

Diane says: "Spaying and neutering is one part of the pet overpopulation puzzle. The other parts are, adopting pets that are already in shelters, and being a responsible pet owner by only getting a rescued pet when you feel you can give it a home for the rest of its' life."

Another, smaller, dimension to their work, is rescuing cats and dogs from the county shelter. They take the harder to place animals and care for them in foster homes. This network of foster families means that, each year,  30-50 cats and dogs are saved.

If you would like to help Stray Aid continue their work, please consider donating any of the following:

  • towels
  • blankets
