November honors adoptable senior pets that still have lots of love to give

If you’re looking to add a furry addition to your family, consider adopting a deserving cat or dog with some life experience! November is National Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month and area pet rescues and shelters are holding events and promotions to help encourage the adoption of some of their senior pets.

Baltimore Humane Society (www.bmorehumane.org)

The BHS is running a Save Our Seniors program that offers reduced adoption fees on seniors. Senior dogs are available for adoption for just $100 and cats are available to adopt for only $25!

Featured Senior!

Dixie (pictured above) is a 7-year-old Labrador mix who is quite a big girl at 87 pounds! She was brought to BHS because her owner’s living situation was changing and he didn’t have anymore time for her. This girl is still full of energy and is looking for a new loving family!

Maryland SPCA (www.mdspca.org)

The Maryland SPCA will continue their Lucky 7 Program. A special donor, Atlantic Remodeling Corp., has made it possible for the Maryland SPCA to waive the adoption fee on all cats and dogs at the shelter that are 7 years of age or older.

In the month of November, CCAR has reduced the adoption fees for cats ages 4 months and older to $52 in honor of Ravens #52 Ray Lewis.

Casey is a very large, marble Tabby boy who was found in bad shape and emaciated Fells Point. He’s slowly gaining weight and getting healthy and he loves a good scratch and giving his human friends plenty of affection!

Adopt-a-Boxer Rescue (http://adoptaboxerrescue.com)

AABR has a great batch of senior boxers looking for a forever home and they have reduced their adoption fee to $300 (only $100 for previous adopters) for senior dogs.

“We hope people will look past a few gray hairs and consider our seniors,” said Kristin Lamoureux, AABR Volunteer Events Coordinator. “Boxers are great dogs who are wiggling and energetic even in their senior days.”

Featured Senior!

Rita is a sweet girl who may look like a tough cookie, but she’s just a real sweetheart. After a life of producing puppies and living in a cage at a puppy mill, she has been in the care of AABR for over a year, and has been bounced around. She just really needs a home of her own. Right now she is living in a kennel because we do not have a foster for her and she is absolutely miserable. A kennel is no place for a senior girl to be!

Lab Rescue of the LRCP (www.lab-rescue.org)

For a limited time, Lab Rescue is offering a discount on the adoption fee for dogs ages 8 and older. The adoption fee will be reduced to $100.

“If you are thinking about adopting a lab, consider opening your heart to an older one,” said Lab Rescue volunteer and adopter Barbara Osgood. “You may think that you are being generous to give a home to one of these ‘senior citizens.’  You will soon find that your ‘senior citizen’ returns far more to you in love, affection, amusement and contentment. When you adopt an older lab, you will truly experience the meaning of rescue, and — who knows? — you might become an addict, too!”

Featured Senior!

Hope is an 11-year-old black, spayed female that is up-to-date on her shots and is heartworm negative. Hope is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and older. Hope is very sweet and loves to be with people! She takes treats gently out of your hands and doesn't even pay attention to other dogs.

Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue (www.midatlanticpugrescue.org)

The MAPR has lowered this senior adoption fee to $100 for a limited time!

Featured Senior!

Chase is a 12-year-old fawn male who is a sweet senior who LOVES to nap all day, and then about 4 p.m., he becomes very spry. Chase is a cuddle pug and will gladly sit with you and maybe nap a little. He also likes to ride in the car, either sitting on a lap or on a blanket on the floor.
