If you love soulful eyes, long floppy ears and the plaintive “roo roo roo” of a hound dog, don’t miss the Basset Rescue of Old Dominion’s (BROOD) annual Ramble, a fun and dog-filled fundraising event. The Ramble will be held Saturday, May 30 at Fido’s Friend dog amusement park.
In addition to bassets, you’ll find food, games and lots of basset things to buy, as well as “Rent-A-Basset” booth where you can meet some of the rescue’s available dogs.
Attending Ramble is a great way to learn about basset hounds, or to get information about fostering or adopting a rescue basset. BROOD does not offer “on-the-spot” adoptions. They require an application and references and then carefully screen applicants to be sure hound and home are a good match. To begin the process now, visit http://www.brood-va.org and complete an application.
While you’re visiting the BROOD site, be sure to vote for photo entries to the group’s calendar contest. You’ll see tons of adorable photos of soulful eyes and long floppy ears! http://www.brood-va.org/calendarcontest.htm.jpg)
As for many animal rescues, BROOD’s adoption fees cover only a fraction of their vet costs and other expenses. Fundraisers and donations help the group make a difference for homeless hounds!
Right now, BROOD has an online silent auction in progress with a variety of items, including a week at the beach plus, tons of excellent basset-themed merchandise. Check it out at : http://www.brood-va.org/ramble/onlineauction.htm BROOD is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
Photos shown are used with permission and are from the BROOD calendar contest. These dogs available for rescue. Visit the BROOD site to see dogs currently available.
