FREE Rabies Vaccination Clinic Feb 17-19

Credit: PetsWeekly.com (2008)

(Phoenix, February 13, 2009) –MCACC is holding a FREE Rabies Vaccination Clinic for your dogs and cats February 17, 18 and 19.  Come on out to the Arizona Historical Society at 1300 N. College Avenue in Tempe from 8:00 am – 11:00 am. Dogs must be on a leash less than 6 feet in length and cats need to be in carriers.

It is very important to vaccinate your pet against rabies. Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. The most important global source of rabies in humans is from uncontrolled rabies in dogs. That can be eliminated through ensuring adequate animal vaccination and control, educating those at risk, and enhancing access of those bitten to appropriate medical care.

Rabies prevention starts with the animal owner.  Protect yourself, your pet and your community by taking animals to be vaccinated.  Avoid stray animals and wildlife.  If you are bitten, wash bite wounds with soap and water and seek medical attention immediately.  If your pet is bitten, consult your veterinarian immediately.  Prompt and appropriate treatment after being bitten and before the disease develops can stop rabies infection and/or prevent the disease in humans and animals.

What’s more, on these three days MCACC and Arizona Humane Society are teaming up to hold a FREE Spay/Neuter Clinic. Check in for the surgery begins at 7:00 am and is first come, first serve. Show up early as the mobile unit can take 25 animals or less, depending on size.

Maricopa County has a huge pet overpopulation program. We are only the fourth largest county in the US, but we have the second largest municipal animal shelter. MCACC sees more than 55,000 dogs and cats every year!

So bring your dog and cat out and get them a rabies vaccination or sterilized!
