Cat stows away on ship, surviving two weeks and 3,000 miles in shipping container

A male cat survived an oceanic journey from Egypt to England while trapped inside a shipping container reports the Mirror. The feline stowaway endured two weeks and 3,000 miles before being discovered when the container was unloaded in Ipswich.

"He was very scrawny. One of my colleagues gave him his sandwich. He ate the meat very quickly. He was very happy to see us," freight company employee Joe Biscoe told the Mirror.

That cat has been named Phoenix and is being held in quarantine for six months by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It is believed he survived his incredible journey "by licking condensation from the inside of the container," reports the MIrror.

Poor kitty. We hope he recovers and finds a good home.
